Owned by the Government of India, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) is the largest insurance company in the nation. As of today, LIC operates with around 2048 branches, 113 divisional offices, 8 zonal offices, 1381 satellite and corporate offices. Throughout the year, LIC releases multiple vacancies for posts such as Assistant Engineer, Assistant Administrative officers, Insurance representative, LIC Assistant and more.

LIC Assistant Exam is one of the most awaited exams among eligible candidates including both fresh graduates and experienced professionals seeking to work in the insurance sector. Before starting your preparation for any sort of vacancy it is necessary that you know about the various details regarding it, such as job profile, salary, eligibility criteria, exam pattern and syllabus.

LIC Assistant Job Profile and Salary

An LIC Assistant has to perform all the jobs of a clerk some of which are listed below:

  • Consumer Service Executive
  • Handling transactions and documents related to claims, settlements, policies etc.
  • Cashier and Single Window Operator
  • Performing back office assignments
  • Analysing and processing insurance documentation, and more.

LIC Assistant Salary comprises a basic pay of Rs. 32,795 per month, under the Rs. 32,795 – 1610 (14) – 55335 – 1745 (4) – 62315 scale and other perks as well as allowances as per the rule.

LIC Assistant Eligibility Criteria

A candidate applying for LIC Assistant must meet the LIC Assistant Eligibility Criteria regarding his/her age and qualification set by the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India. The application forms of only eligible candidates are submitted and of those failing the eligibility are declined.

  • Age limit for LIC Assistant – The minimum age of a candidate who can apply for this exam is 18 years and maximum age limit is set at 30 years as on the date set by the LIC board.

  • Educational Qualification – A candidate having a bachelor’s degree (10 + 2 + 3) in any discipline from a Government recognised college or university.

LIC Assistant Exam Pattern

The selection process for recruiting LIC assistant involves two phases, mainly Online Preliminary Examination and Online Mains Examination. While prelims exam is of qualifying nature, marks obtained in mains exams are considered for final merit listing of candidates. After this stage, the final shortlisted candidates will be called for a medical examination.

Online Preliminary Exam

Preliminary Exam consists of 100 objective-type questions, divided in three sections, namely Numerical Ability, English language/Hindi Language and reasoning ability. The time duration of the online preliminary exam is 60 minutes.

Salient Points for LIC Assistant Prelims

  • Marks scored in the online Prelims exam will not be considered during the final shortlisting and are of qualifying nature only.
  • A time limit of 20 minutes is allotted to each section and 60 minutes in total.
  • A candidate will be awarded one mark for each correct answer.
  • Candidates equal to 20 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for the Mains exam.
  • Candidates must clear sectional cutoff to qualify for the Mains exam.

Online Mains Exam

Online Mains exam consists of four sections namely Quantitative aptitude, English/Hindi language, reasoning ability, and computer ability, general/finance awareness, pooling together for 200 questions to be attempted in 150 minutes.

  • Salient Points for LIC Assistant Mains
  • There is negative marking of 1/4th (or 0.25 marks) for each incorrect answer.
  • Final merit list and shortlisting will be based on the score of the candidate in online mains exams
  • Each section is allotted with a sectional time limit and questions must be attempted before the end of sectional time.
  • Just like in the prelims exams, candidates need to qualify cutoffs in each section to clear the mains exam. So, he/she should take a note of minimum qualifying marks in each section.

Pre-Recruitment Medical Test

Upon clearing the mains exam and getting shortlisted, candidates are called for a medical test. Those who pass this test are declared medically fit to be selected and appointed as LIC Assistants.
