Bhubaneswar: Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar is an autonomous research institution funded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. The research activities in the Institute spans theoretical and experimental research in the areas of condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, high energy physics and interdisciplinary areas such as quantum computation, biological physics, complex systems, nano-science, material science, etc. With its distinguished research faculties and worldclass facilities, Institute of Physics offers an ideal platform to motivated and aspiring students to initiate their research career. The Institute invites application for its regular Doctoral Programme starting from August, 2018.
Eligibility Criteria:
- M.Sc. in Physics with a minimum of 55% marks (in aggregate) or equivalent CGPA cumulatively till the last year/ semester. (Candidates appearing for M.Sc. in 2018, and who satisfy any of the criteria (2) as mentioned below can apply. Their admission will be treated as provisional.)
- A valid GATE score with rank upto 200, OR CSIR NET (JRF) within the last two years, OR DST-INSPIRE fellowship for carrying out Ph.D.
- Candidates having a rank upto 120 (Sl. No.: 303, Percentile: 84.98) in JEST-2018 (Ph.D. only).
(Candidates are required to upload the supporting documents regarding GATE/ NET/ DST-INSPIRE and produce the same in original at the time of selection.)
If a candidate has a rank beyond 120 (Sl. No.: 303, Percentile: 84.98) in JEST-2018 but satisfies the criteria mentioned above, she/he is encouraged to apply.
Key Dates: Last Date for receiving online application: 15th May, 2018. All selected candidates have to appear for written exam on 4th June, 2018 at 9:00 AM.
Selection Procedure: Eligible candidates are required to appear for a written test at around 9 AM in the morning of 4 June, 2018 at IOP, Bhubaneswar. Those shortlisted on the basis of the performance in the written test will appear for a personal interview during 4-6 June, 2018. The final selection will be based on the performance in the test and the personal interview.

a) All the candidates appearing for Ph. D. selection are required to be present at IOP by 8.30 am on June 4 for written test starting at 09.00 am.
b) Based on the results of written test, about 30-40 students will be selected for interview to be held on June 4-6, 2018.
c) All the candidates appearing for the written test will be reimbursed (a maximum amount equivalent to) sleeper class round trip train fare between their place of residence and Bhubaneswar on production of train ticket.
d) A sum of ₹. 600/- will be provided to meet living expenses.
e) You are required to bring all the academic documents like marks card, certificates, etc. starting X standard (till the highest degree that you have attained/pursuing) to appear for the Ph. D. selection.
f) You are also required to bring JEST/GATE/CSIR-UGC (JRF)/INSPIRE documents/marks card etc. to prove your eligibility for our Ph. D. selection.
g) In case you belong to a reserved category you are required to bring the necessary certificates.
