New Delhi, 01 December 2021:  In a major development, the University Grants Commission (UGC), the regulator for Higher Education, has asked the Central Universities to prepare for the Central Universities Common Entrance Test or CUCET for admissions to various Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) programmes from the academic year 2022-23.

The UGC has also informed that the score of the National Eligibility Test or UGC NET score, shall be used for admission to PhD Programmes in Central Universities, from AY 2022-23 wherever feasible.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct Common University Entrance Test (CUCET) for admission to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

CUCET, which is envisaged in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, was scheduled to start in the 2021-22 academic session. However, amid COVID 19 pandemic, the government put it on hold.

In a Letter Dt 26 November 2021, issued by the UGC to the Vice Chancellors of 45 Central Universities, the UGC CUCET will conducted in 13 languages in which NTA already conducting JEE and NEET examinations.

The Letter was sent to 45 central universities, including Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI).  Hence, it appears that DU, JNU, JMI will participate in the CUCET 2022-23.
