Mumbai, 09 February 2021: Human Resource Development Division (HRDD), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has announced DAE Doctoral Fellowship Scheme 2021 (DGFS-PhD). BARC invites applications from Engineering post-graduates (ME / MTech / Equivalent Degree) for admission to DAE Doctoral Fellowship Scheme (DDFS) formerly known as DGFS- PhD.

\The candidates will pursue PhD under the aegis of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) a Deemed to be University, commencing from August, 2021.

Key Dates: 

Launch of Online Application Portal – 01 February 2021

Last Date for Online Application – 28 February  2021

Download of Admit Cards From – 04 March 2021onwards

Screening Examination – 21 March  2021 (Tentative)

Eligibility Conditions:  Candidates should possess ME / MTech or equivalent postgraduate degree in Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Metallurgical/Materials, Nuclear Engineering with minimum 60% Marks. In addition to this, the student should have 60% marks in B. E. /B. Tech. or any other degree considered to enter M.E. / M.Tech. programme. The qualifying 60% marks should be as per the ordinance of the respective degree awarding university OR equivalent of cumulative grade point average CGPA (converted to % Marks by multiplying with 100/x if the CGPA is on x points scale).

Age limit: The candidates desirous of availing DDFS fellowship should have been born on or after August 1, 1993. Age limit is relaxable by three years for OBC (born on or after August 1, 1990) and by five years for SC/ST applicants (born on or after August 1, 1988).

Persons with Disability (PWD) of all categories are eligible for further age relaxation of 10 years ( born on or after August 1, 1983 for General category-PWD, born on or after August 1, 1980 for OBC-PWD & born on or after August 1, 1978 for SC/ST-PWD ) The age limit for the candidates working as faculty in Engineering Colleges who desire to pursue Ph.D. without the fellowship grant is 40 years.

Selection Process: Applicants who fulfil the above mentioned eligibility criteria will appear in a written Screening test to be held at multiple centers across India on March 21, 2021(Tentative). Candidates will be shortlisted for selection interview based on performance in the screening test as well as previous academic records. The final selection will be based on performance in the interview.

The candidates should be prepared for a 10 minutes presentation on their research interest.

Fellowship Benefits:  The selected students will be awarded fellowships under the DAE Doctoral Fellowship Scheme (DDFS) for pursuing PhD under the aegis of HBNI.  The amount of fellowship payable under the scheme is Rs.60,000/- pm (Rupees Sixty Thousand Only) besides house rent allowance and medical benefits as per rules. An annual contingency grant of Rs. 40,000 is also available for all expenses related to the PhD problem.

The selected students will be admitted to one of the following Constituent Institutions of HBNI:

(1) Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai;

(2) Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam;

(3) Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar;

(4) Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata.
