Bhubaneswar, 11 November 2020: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar, an Institute of National Importance, has invited application for admission to PhD Programme under various disciplines from eligible candidates for 2020-21(Spring Semester).  Here, the closing date for submission of application is 25 November 2020.

The PhD programmes are available under the following categories: Institute Scholar, Sponsored Scholar, and Project Scholar (Projects running at IIT Bhubaneswar).

Regular Full Time students in PhD Programmes are eligible for Institute Research Assistantship as per Ministry of Education, formerly known as Ministry of Ministry HRD.

 Eligibility Criteria for Institute Scholar:

Candidates who possess the qualifications as mentioned below are eligible for admission into the PhD Programme for full-time with Institute Research Assistantship or UGC/CSIR-NET Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or any other doctoral fellowship offered by Govt. of India (GoI), as the case is applicable. A relaxation of up to 5% marks in all academic examination levels is permitted for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

PhD (Engineering):

1.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in M. Tech./M.E. or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE score in the year of admission into the M. Tech. programme.

OR

Tech./B.E. or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with minimum 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) with a valid GATE score or having secured a UGC/CSIR-NET JRF. All candidates must have a consistently good academic record. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

OR

Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in Master of Science or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with consistently good academic record and a valid GATE score or having secured a UGC/CSIR-NET JRF. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

2.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in 10 point scale) is required in all other examinations. A single relaxation up to 10% marks either at Xth or XIIth level examination or equivalent is permitted.

PhD (Basic Science):

1.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Master’s or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with consistently good academic record. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

2.Minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with consistently good academic record. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

3.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) is required in all other examinations. A single relaxation up to 10% marks either at Xth or XIIth level examination or equivalent is permitted.

 4.The candidate must have a valid GATE score or have secured a UGC/CSIR-NET JRF.

PhD (Geoscience):

1.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Master’s or equivalent degree in Geology/Geophysics/Earth Science. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

2.Minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with consistently good academic record. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

3.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) is required in all other examinations. A single relaxation up to 10% marks either at Xth or XIIth level examination or equivalent is permitted.

4.The candidate must have a valid GATE score or have secured a UGC/CSIR-NET JRF/INSPIRE.

PhD (Climate Sciences):

Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Master’s or equivalent degree in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Oceanography/ Meteorology/ Marine Science/ Atmosphere and Ocean Sciences/Earth Science/ Mechanical/ Civil/ Electrical/ ECE/ Geoinformatics/ Remote Sensing/ Computer Science. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

OR

Tech./B.E. or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with minimum 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) with a valid GATE score or having secured a UGC/CSIR-NET JRF. All candidates must have a consistently good academic record. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

2.Minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with Mathematics as a compulsory subject. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

3.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) is required in all other examinations. A single relaxation up to 10% marks either at Xth or XIIth level examination or equivalent is permitted.

 4.The candidate must have a valid GATE score in Atmosphere and Ocean Sciences (XE-H) or Valid GATE from other appropriate disciplines or have secured a UGC/CSIR-NET JRF/INSPIRE, or any other National Fellowship.

PhD (HSS&M):

1.Minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Master’s degree in appropriate discipline. Provisional certificate is acceptable.

2.Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) is required in all other examinations. A single relaxation up to 10% marks either at Xth or XIIth level examination or equivalent is permitted.

3.The candidate must be UGC-NET(JRF and LS) qualified.

Key Dates & Application Fees: The closing date for submission of application is 25 November 2020.

For General and OBC Candidates, the application fee is Rs 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred Only) while for SC/ST/PWD Candidates, the fee is Rs. 250/- (Rupees Two Hundred Fifty Only).  Female candidates are exempted from payment of application fee.

PhD programmes are available in the following schools:  School of Basic Sciences; School of Earth, Ocean & Climate Sciences;  School of Electrical Sciences; School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management; School of Infrastructure (Civil Engineering); School of Mechanical Sciences; School of Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

Subjects: Biosciences, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences, Geology, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Economics, English, Psychology, Water Resources Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

IIT Bhubaneswar informed that 5% relaxation of marks in all academic examination would be granted to the SC/ST/PwD candidates compared to the General/OBC (NCL) candidates.
