Varanasi, 15 December 2020: Banaras Hindu University, (BHU) Varanasi, India’s premier Central University, has released PhD Admission notification for March semester for academic year 2019-20. Due to COVID19, BHU has not admitted students for doctoral programs in 2020. Hence, the Admission process is delayed.

The total number of seats available for the semester is 485. As it is a Central University, students across India can apply for doctoral progarmmes.

BHU has notified now Admission of Research Entrance Test (RET) Exempted candidates in PhD Programme of  March 2020 semester of the  Academic Session 2019-2020. The online application portal will close on 18 December 2020. The Date of Test/Counseling/Admissions is 21 December 2020

The notification released by BHU stated that only those  candidates  shall be eligible  to apply  in this  application  process who have obtained  their  qualifying  degree  of the Academic  session 2018-2019 or before  and who  is recipient of national  Doctoral  Fellowship  or other  fellowship  from  government / semi- government organizations ( through  All India  selection  procedure conducted  by the agency  organization  for award  of research  fellowship) such as UGC, CSIR , AICTE, DRDO, DST, DAE, ICAR, ICMR, AYUSH, and similar National  Level  Organizations.

Eligibility  Criteria : Only those  candidates  shall be eligible  to apply  in this  application  process who have obtained  their  qualifying  degree  of the Academic  session 2018-2019 or before  and who   is recipient of national  Doctoral  Fellowship  or other  fellowship  from  government / semi- government organization ( through  All India  selection  procedure conducted  by the agency  organization  for award  of research  fellowship)  such as Council  of Scientific  and Industrial Research (CSIR), University  Grants commission (UGC)  , All India council  for technical  Education (AICTE) , Department  of Science  and Technology (DST) , Defense  Research  and Development  Organization (DRDO) ,  Department  OF Atomic Energy (DAE) , Department  of Biotechnology (DBT) ,Indian Council  of Agricultural  Research (ICAR) , Indian Council   of Medical Research(ICMR) , Ayurveda  Yoga  Unani Siddha Homeopathy(AYUSH)  and  similar National  Level Organization  1st March 2020.

The notification mentioned that those RET Exempt category candidates who had applied under RET 2019 (September 2019 term) notification need not to apply again.

Selection Procedure:  In the first step, the admission committee (Teachers-counselors) available at the Counseling Centre/Venue would verify the original documents of the candidate present on the date of counseling.

Thereafter,  the Test B  will be conducted in the concerned Department/School/Centre which carries a total of 50 marks for its two component :  writing a one page research proposal (25 marks) followed by interview (25 marks).

Next step, the Interview Board will examine the research proposal submitted by the candidate and ask questions related to it and other questions, related to candidate’s research area.

Final merit list of RET (Exempt) category will be based on the composite index prepared by adding marks obtained by a candidate in the Test B and Academic Records.  Merit List will be prepared of RET (Exempt) candidates by the Interview Board for the concerned discipline.

Key Dates & Application Fees: 

The online application portal has opened from 08 December 2020.

The online application portal will close on 18 December 2020.

Date of Test/Counseling/Admissions   – 21 December 2020

Last Date of Deposit Fees- 28 December 2020.

The application fee is Rs 300 for SC/ST/PWD. For others, the application fee is Rs 600.

Seat Matrix:  Admission is available various Faculties of BHU except Agriculture. The total number of PhD seats available under  RET Exempted  March 2020 Semester are 485. Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Visual Arts, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Science, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Performing Arts, Faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijnana, Faculty of Science, Faculty of  Ayurveda, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Enverment & sustainable Development (ESD), and Faculty of  Dental  Science.
