Pondicherry, 12 August 2020: Pondicherry University, a Central University, has announced Admission for 2020-21. For PhD Admission, the total number of vacant seats are 400 across 40 subjects.
All the full time scholars admitted to the PhD of the University Departments will be eligible for a monthly fellowship of Rs.8000/- with contingency.
The University will conduct PhD Entrance Test at national levels in 36 Cities across India. For PhD Courses, admission is based on Entrance Test/ JRF and Interview.
Total PhD Vacant PhD Seats: The total number of vacant PhD Seats are 400 for 2020-21: University – 214; Affiliated Colleges/Research Centres/Institutions -186.

The admission to the PhD Programmes shall be made as per the following criteria:
Entrance Exam – 70 %
Personal Interview & Academic Record – 30 %
The minimum cut off mark for general candidates in respect of PhD admission shall be half of the average of the entrance examination marks scored by all the candidates in the respective subject. The minimum cut of mark for OBC/SC/ST/ Differently Abled candidates will be 10% below the cut off marks of the general category candidates.
The entrance examination will be of 2 hours duration.
All the PhD applicants called for inteview should submit at the time of interview, a clear written proposal of the research to be conducted, giving sufficient back-ground material and the proposed line of research, and obtain the consent of a research supervisor duly recognized by the University within the University area.
NET/JRF qualified candidates with fellowships will be given direct admission to PhD programmes.
The admission test is waived off for candidates who have qualified the National Eligibility Test conducted by UGC/ CSIR or such other National Level examination recognized by the University as equivalent, and awarded a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to carry out PhD Programme. These candidates could be admitted at the beginning of monsoon and winter semesters, on the recommendation of the PhD Admission Committee.
NET qualified candidates without JRF will have to take the entrance test.
