New Delhi, 09 May 2025: In India, there are 32 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and more than 20 Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs). These premier research and education institutes admit PhD scholars in two sessions. Now Admission for Semester I of 2025-26 session has commenced.
As on 09 May 2024, there are four NITs have announced PhD Admission for Semester I 2025-26. These institutes offer attractive fellowships, popularly known as Institute Fellowships.

NIT Trichy Announces PhD Admission for July 2025 for 146 Fellowship Seats
Tiruchirappalli, 02 May 2025: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli, Top NIT as per NIRF 2021, has invited applications from eligible candidates for admission to PhD for July 2025 session.
There are four types of PhD programmes available for admission:
Full-Time
(i) Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA), and (ii) Externally Funded (iii) Non-Stipendiary
(b) Part-Time: In-Service (i) Internal and (ii) External
Total PhD Seats: There are 17 departments offering PhD Programmes. The total number of PhD Seats with Institute Fellowships are 146 (Full Time-Stipendiary Category).

NIT Meghalaya Announces PhD Admission July 2025 with Institute Fellowships
Shillong, 20 April 2025: National Institute of Technology (NIT ), Meghalaya, an Institute of National Importance, has announced PhD Admission for July 2025 session. The PhD Programs, in Full-time (FT) and Sponsored Part-time modes, are offered in 08 departments of the institute.
Key Dates:
Last date of filling online application (up to 5:00 PM) – 06 May 2025
Notification of Shortlisted Candidates for Ph.D Programme – 13 May 2025
Application Fee: General/OBC candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only) and for SC/ST candidates, a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred only).
NIT Arunachal Pradesh Opens PhD Admission July 2025 with Institute Fellowship Seats
Papum Pare, 25 April 2025: National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh, an Institute of National Importance, has invited applications for PhD Programmes for July-December 2025 session. Institute Fellowship benefits are available to Full Time PhD scholars.

Last date of submission of application form – 15 May 2025 till 5PM
Publication of shortlisted applicant – 16 June 2025
Date of written test followed by interview and other process for part time PhD selection – 23rd June– 15th July 2025
Display or notification of result in website – 20th July to 31st July (tentative) 2025
NIT Rourkela Announces PhD Admission July 2025 with Institute Fellowships
Rourkela, Odisha, 08 May 2025: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, has released PhD Admission notification for Autumn (July) 2025 Semester commencing from July 2025.
Admission will be given preferably to the applicants who are eligible for Institute fellowship or have qualified for External fellowship. However, admission may also be considered without fellowship. Students with external fellowship like JRF-NET are especially encouraged to apply.
