Bangalore, 21 May 2024: The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore), invites applications for its research degree programs, namely the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) and Master of Science (M.S) by Research. These programs offer an excellent opportunity for aspiring researchers and academicians to advance their careers in an environment renowned for its academic excellence and innovative research.
The Ph.D program at IIIT-Bangalore represents the highest level of academic research, designed to prepare students for esteemed careers in academia and research laboratories. This rigorous program involves 3-5 years of intensive study, culminating in a substantial original research project and dissertation defence. Candidates have the flexibility to enrol as full-time or part-time students.
The M.S. by Research is a four-semester program tailored for mature students seeking a supportive academic environment to hone their research skills. The program focuses on developing advanced research capabilities, leading to a master’s thesis that demonstrates significant original results. Many M.S. Research students are working professionals sponsored by their employers, including research scientists from reputed organizations and government bodies. This program is available only for full-time applicants.
Scholarships: IIIT-B is committed to supporting its full-time research scholars through competitive fellowships. Full-time MS by Research students receive a fellowship of INR 20,000 per month. Full-time Ph.D. students receive a fellowship of INR 38,500 till the completion of the comprehensive examination. Post the completion of this exam, for the remaining two years, an enhanced stipend of INR 43,500/= is provided.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants to the Ph.D. program must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) with a strong academic and, where applicable, technical track record. In line with the University Grants Commission’s admission criteria, candidates are required to pass either a relevant national entrance examination or a domain-specific entrance examination conducted by IIIT-Bangalore, followed by an interview.

IIIT-Bangalore is seeking applications for research in the following centres: E-Health Research Centre (EHRC), Machine Intelligence and Robotics (MINRO) Centre, Centre of Internet and Ethical Things (CIET), and Center for Technology Research and Innovation – Digital Governance (CTRI-DG).
