Bangalore, 12 September 2022:  Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, second Top Ranker in BSchools in India,  has opened application portal for PhD (Doctoral) Admission 2023. PhD Admission is available in 10 subjects related to Management, Economics and Entrepreneurship.

There is no tuition fee for PhD students. Additionally, Doctoral research scholars will receive a stipend of Rs 35,000 per month for up to five years to cover their living expenses. Startup grant (in year 1) of Rs 75,000 to meet expenses on purchasing research work related hardware and software.

Key Dates:

Last date for submission of Completed application is 10 October  2022 if appearing for the IIMB Test on 16 October  2022.

 Last date for submission of Completed application is 12 December  2022, if appearing for the IIMB Test on 18 December  2022.

Research Areas: Decision Sciences,   Economics & Social Sciences,  Entrepreneurship,  Finance & Accounting,  Information Systems, Marketing, Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Management, Production & Operations Management, Public Policy, and Strategy.

Candidates can apply to a maximum of two areas of specialization.

Candidates should have

1. a) A Master’s Degree (obtained after completing bachelor’s degree) or a 5 year Integrated Master’s Degree (obtained after completing higher secondary schooling in 10+2 pattern) in any discipline (OR) Post Graduate Diploma (2 years) with at least 55* percent marks in the bachelor’s as well in the master’s degrees/PG Diploma (*50 percent marks for SC, ST and PwD categories).

1. b) Professional qualification – CA, ICWA, CS (with at least 50*percent marks) with B.com / Degree (*45 percent marks for SC, ST and PwD categories).

6. c) A 4 year / 8 semesters Bachelor’s degree with at least 6.5* CGPA or equivalent marks (*6.0 CGPA for SC, ST and PwD categories).

Candidates who are in the final year of the qualifying Programmes that would make them eligible can also apply. (However, in case of CA/ICWA/CS the applicant should have completed the course at the time of applying to the PhD programme.) Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate (latest by the date of registration to the PhD 2023 programme) from the Principal/ Head of the Department / Registrar or Director of the University / Institute stating that they have appeared for the examinations (including practical examinations) in all the subjects required for obtaining the Master’s / Bachelor’s degree / equivalent qualification.

The deadline for submission of marks sheet and the Certificate is 31 December  2023.

Test Scores:

Candidates require a valid test score, from any one of the acceptable tests to the area(s) of specialization they are applying to, as shown in the following table.

Except for those opting for IIMB Test, all other candidates should mandatorily provide the test score, which should be valid as on December 12, 2022, while submitting the application.

Applicants opting to take the IIMB Test should choose this option in the application. IIMB Test will be conducted ONLINE by IIMB twice, i.e on October 16, 2022 and December 18, 2022. If any applicant is appearing twice, the best of the two scores (IIMB Test) will be considered for further processing.

Duration of the Programme:

Students are expected to complete the doctoral programme within 5 years of registering for the programme.

Selection Procedure:  Based on the information provided by the applicants, candidates will be shortlisted (on the recommendation of the respective areas) and invited for an area specific written test and / or interview (see PhD 2023 Area wise Admission Process for details). The mode of conducting the Area specific written test and Interview i.e either Online / In-person will be notified/intimated well ahead of the process.
