Mumbai, 03 February 2021: IIT Bombay – Monash Research Academy (The Academy), an Australian-Indian research collaboration formed between IIT Bombay and Australia’s Monash University, has announced  Joint PhD Program admission for June 2021 intake. Students will receive a dual-badged PhD degree from IIT Bombay and Monash University.

Research Areas: The Academy offers PhD programs in inter-disciplinary research in the fields in science, technology, computer science, IT, Engineering, humanities, design and mathematics.

  • Energy, Green Chem, Chemistry, Catalysis, Reaction Eng
  • Math, CFD, Modelling, Manufacturing
  • CSE, IT, Optimisation, Data, Sensors, Systems, Signal Processing, Control
  • Earth Sciences and Civil Engineering (Geo, Water, Climate)
  • Bio, Stem Cells, Bio Chem, Pharma, Food
  • Semi-Conductors, Optics, Photonics, Networks, Telecomm, Power Eng
  • Design, HSS, Management

Key Dates: Applications for the June 2021 intake are now open. The last date for submission of EOI forms is 07 March 2021.

Eligibility Conditions: Exceptional students whose intended area of study aligns with the research priorities of the IITB-Monash Research Academy are invited to apply for the Joint PhD program:

The minimum entrance requirements for PhD admission are:

First class or equivalent Master’s degree in a range of disciplines

First class Bachelor’s degree and a valid GATE score

Satisfying requirements of academic qualifications and English Language proficiency of Monash University.

Candidates without a valid GATE score or research fellowship can be considered for admission if they have a minimum of two years professional experience. Competition for places is high and a competitive selection process is applied to all applicants.

Fellowships: Students in the joint IITB-Monash PhD program will benefit from the following funding arrangements:

Rs 372,000 per annum scholarship for the first two years

Rs 420,000 per annum after first two years

A grant of up to A$25,850 per annum in Australia

A minimum of one year in Australia working with your Monash University co-supervisor (some projects may require you to be in Australia for a longer period of time or undertake more than one trip),Waiver of international student tuition fees at Monash University.
