Guwahati, 04 April 2022: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, an Institute of National Importance, has announced  Admission to Postgraduate Programmes for July 2022 Session.  These PG Programmes include Doctoral/MTech/MDes/MS(R)/MA programmes.

Total Number of PhD Seats: The total number of PhD Seats available are 556 for the July 2022 session. Special Seats for Ph.D Programme under CSIR/UGC JRF Scheme are 41 and Dual Degree PhD seats are 20.  

The PhD Programmes are available for the following types: Regular and Full Time, Sponsored and Full Time, Employed and Part Time, Self-Financed and Full Time, Self-Financed and Part Time, Project Staff and Full Time, Project Staff and Part Time, External and Part Time, and Self-Financed and Full Time Foreign Students.

Joint Degree PhD Programme with IIT (BHU): This is first of its kind among IITs. The students admitted to this joint degree PhD programme (JDP) will work under the joint supervision of faculty members from both IIT Guwahati and IIT (BHU) on the specified research proposals.

Key Dates:

Opening of Application Portal for Submission of Applications: 04 April  2022.

Closing of Application Portal: 05:00 PM on 25 April 2022

Selections will be conducted during 15 May to 30 June 2022

  • Disciplines wise and Category wise 5% seats are reserved for PwD candidates.
  • The candidates under non-regular category can occupy a maximum of 10% seats

Stipend for PhD Regular Full Time: At present, the Institute provides monthly assistantship of Rs. 31,000 for the first two years and RS.35,000 for the next three years to our regular full time PhD students.

They receive Financial Assistantship/ Scholarship from IIT Guwahati or Fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency.

The Financial Assistantship/ Scholarship from the Institute or the Fellowship from External funding agency is granted to them as per its governing rules and subject to satisfactory academic progress and satisfactory performance in assigned teaching assistant duty.

In order to avail assistantship/ scholarship from the Institute or the fellowship from the respective external funding agency, these candidates must have the following requirements unless they are exempted from these.

The candidates with four-year Bachelor’s degree (BE/BTech/ BDes or equivalent) as qualifying degree must have valid and qualifying GATE score (CEED score in case of Department of Design)

The candidates with MSc degree as qualifying degree must have valid and qualifying GATE score or valid CSIR-NET(JRF)/ INSPIRE/ NBHM-PhD qualification, etc.

The candidates having MA in Humanities and Social Sciences subjects or equivalent must have valid UGC-NET qualification.

The requirement of valid GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE, etc. is exempted for the candidates with qualifying degree as Bachelor’s (BTech/BDes) degree or Masters’ (MA/MSc) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with minimum CPI of 8.0 in a 10-point scale.
