Dhanbad: Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, a premier technology & engineering, has invited applications for Junior Research Fellowship (PhD Programme) from eligible candidates in various disciplines of Engineering, Science, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences.  IIT (ISM) will conduct JRF Entrance Examination (JRFEE) on 12 November 2017 (Sunday) at Chennai, Dhanbad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, and Varanasi. PhD Programmes are available in Engineering, Science & Humanities and Management subject categories while total subjects are 24.

Key Dates: The online application has commenced from 03 October 2017 for the session Phase 2 of 2017-18. The last date for submitting application online is 31 October 2017. IIT(ISM) JRF Entrance Examination will be held on 12 November 2017. The Interview for qualified candidates will be held on 03 December 2017. The application fee for General/OBC  candidates is Rs 2,000/ – while for SC/ST/PC/Female candidates is Rs 1,000 /- .

Eligibility Conditions in Brief:  For detailed and exact eligibility conditions, candidates should refer the Information Brochure of IIT ISM Dhanbad –PhD Phase 2-2017-18.

In order to encourage B.Tech candidates from IITs, applicants from IITs with CGPA/OGPA 8.50 and above will be allowed for direct interview.

Candidates applying through other admission modes (JRFEE/GATE/NET), FIRST CLASS is mandatory. In case of where class is not mentioned in their qualifying degree, an OGPA of 7.0 and above will be considered equivalent to first class.

 The candidates applying in the Humanities disciplines (English/Philosophy/Sociology) the cut-off is 55% marks or higher grade in their respective post-graduate degree.

Selection Process:

A candidate can get qualified for the interview through any of the following modes:

  1. Valid GATE score
  2. Valid NET rank
  3. Qualify in JRF Entrance Examination (JRFEE)
  4. Posses B.Tech from IITs in respective discipline with OGPA/CGPA 8.5 and above.

The above modes will be considered as screening criteria. Merit list will be prepared only on the basis of performance of the candidate in the interview.

JRF Entrance Examination (JRFEE): All applicants opted for the JRFEE will have to qualify in the examination to be called for the interview. JRFEE will adopt Multiple Choice Questions with NEGATIVE marking for wrong answers. The national wide JRFEE will be held on 12 November 2017 (Sunday) at the centres given here from 9.00 AM – 12.00 Noon: Chennai, Dhanbad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, and Varanasi .
