Kharagpur, 20 October 2021: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, an Institute of National Importance, has opened PhD Admission for Spring Semester 2021-22. Regular PhD candidates will receive Institute Research Assistantship.
PhD Programmes are available in the following categories: Regular, Sponsored, Working Professionals and Individual Fellowship (i.e. CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/INSPIRE categories)] of the Institute in all disciplines of Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture & Regional Planning, Humanities & Social Sciences, Rural Development, Law, Management and Medicine.

Window for Interviews in Depts/Centres/Schools (for short listed candidates)- 17 to 28 November 2021.
Date of admission in the PhD programme for selected candidates- First week of January, 2021 (Tentative).
Application fee (Non-refundable) is Rs.1000/- for Unreserved/OBC/EWS/Transgender candidates and Rs.500/- for SC/ST/PwD/ Women candidates.

BTech from IITs: BTech degree and Dual Degree (B.Tech & M.Tech ) holders having final CGPA >= 8.00 from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will be given direct admission in Ph.D programme with Institute Research Assistantship.
Fellowships: The Institute Research Assistantship shall be awarded for a maximum period of 5 years.
At present the amounts are as follows:
Rs. 31,000/- pm for first 2 years
Rs. 35,000/- pm for next 3 years
Selection Procedure:
The admission of a candidate to the PhD program is recommended by the Departmental Academic Committee (Post-Graduate and Research), abbreviated as DAC (PG&R), of the Department/Centre concerned on the basis of:
- Overall Academic Performance
- Online Written Test, and
- Interview
