New Delhi: Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), which promotes research in the field of social sciences, is yet to notify various programmes and fellowship schemes for the year 2017-18. ICSSR has informed through its official website that advertisements for various programmes and schemes for the year 2017-18 will be released by July 2017.
ICSSR has an elaborate programme of supporting research to individual scholars by offering them fellowships at different levels in social science disciplines. The disciplines /areas include: Sociology and Social Anthropology/Social Work/Demography/Gender Studies; Political Science/International Relations/Geography/Public Administration; Psychology/Education/Criminology; Economics/Commerce/Management/Business Administration; Others- Linguistics/Law ; Other allied Social Science disciplines.
The flagship fellowship schemes of ICSSR are as followed: National Fellowships; Senior Fellowships Guidelines; Post Doctoral Fellowships; and Doctoral Fellowships. These schemes are very popular among research scholars and PhD students who are pursuing research in social science disciplines.
ICSSR has already uploaded the scheme guidelines of these above schemes on its website. However, the official notification for acceptance of applications is yet to be released. Generally, the council releases these advertisements in May-June of each year. The aspirants should now closely track that ICSSR is likely release the notification for application window by July for the year 2017-18.
As per ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship Scheme guideline, the ICSSR will provide financial assistance to registered PhD scholars to pursue and complete their doctoral thesis in social science disciplines under its Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowship and Institutional Doctoral Fellowship.
ICSSR support for Doctoral Research shall be provided under the following categories: Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowship; Institutional Doctoral Fellowship; Short Term Doctoral Fellowship; and Contingency Grant.
Eligibility Conditions in Brief for ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship Scheme:
Candidates who hold a Master’s degree of a recognized university in any of the social science subjects having secured second class with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade are eligible to apply
SC/ST candidates a relaxation of five percent is admissible, i.e. having secured second class with minimum 50% marks or the equivalent grade;
Candidates should not be more than 40 years of age (relaxation in age by 5 years permissible in case of SC/ST candidates) as on 1 July of the year in which the Application is submitted;
For teachers and professional staff of research institutes holding regular posts, the upper age limit shall be 45 years;
The candidates must have confirmed PhD registration on the date of Application for award of doctoral fellowship.
