Bangalore: Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore released admission notification 2018 for its various programmes: PhD, and Integrated Tech-PhD. The institute will held IIA Screening Test (IIAST) on Saturday, 09 December 2017. IIA conducts the following two graduate programmes leading to PhD degrees: (i) PhD, jointly with Pondicherry Central University, (MSc, Integrated MSc/ME/MTech) and (ii) Integrated MTech – PhD, jointly with University of Calcutta (BE/BTech).

The online application has opened from 21 September 2017. The closing date for submission of online application is 22 October  2017 (05:30 PM), Sunday.

IIA Bangalore is engaged in research activities focused on astronomy, astrophysics and related areas of physics. PhD programmes are available in the following subjects: Applied Physics/Engg Physics, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Electronics, Photonics/Optics,    Physics, Applied Physics, Instrumentation, Photonics/Optics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, and Photonics/Optics/Opto-electronics.

Eligibility Conditions: Applications are invited from students who expect to complete MSc (Physics) / Integrated MSc (Physics) / BE / BTech / ME / MTech degree by June 2018 or already completed, with 60% marks from Standard X onwards. All applicants must fill the online application form.

In addition to the above, the other minimum eligibility criteria to apply are, All India rank in GATE (OR) JEST exam should be in the range 1 – 250 (OR) qualification in UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF) exam (OR) currently valid KVPY / INSPIRE fellowship.

Incomplete applications (without scanned copy of stamp / passport size photograph of the student, X, XII, UG, PG mark sheets, GATE / UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF) / JEST / KVPY / INSPIRE result) will be rejected.

The qualifying degree requirements of the various programmes are mentioned at the admission notification. The candidate can apply to one programme only.

Age Limit: Maximum 25 years as on 01 January 2018.

Selection Process: Candidates short listed based on their performance in the IIAST will be called for personal interview in IIA, Bangalore. Personal interviews for the PhD programme will be held in the first week of January 2018, and that for the MTech-PhD programme (conducted jointly with University of Calcutta) will be held during May 2018.

Scholarship & Other Allowances: PhD scholars are eligible to get the stipend of a JRF is Rs. 25,000/- pm, and of a SRF is Rs. 28,000/- pm in addition to an annual book grant and medical facilities.
