Mumbai, 10 March 2021: Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai, an Advanced Research Institute Established by Reserve Bank of India, has announced applications for admission to the following programmes: MSc (Economics); PhD (Development Studies). Ph.D. students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.25,000/- (to be be revised) in the first two years. All candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in an Online test and an interview.

Key Dates: Last date for receipt of Online Application form is 18 April 2021.

MSc (Economics): This is a two-year programme commencing end July 2021.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. programme includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com./B.Stat./B.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level. Reservation Policy as per Government of India Rules. Reserved Category applicants have to produce the necessary documentation as per GOI Rule.

Need-based scholarships are available for Masters students as per Institute’s norms.

PhD (Development Studies): This a four year programme commencing end July 2021.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to the PhD programme includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: MA/MSc in Economics/MStat/MSc (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/MBA/MTech/ME/BTech/BE. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level. Reservation Policy as per Government of India Rules. Reserved Category applicants have to produce the necessary documentation as per GOI Rule.

 

Stipend: PhD students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.25,000/- in the first two years. Those students, who fulfill the terms and conditions for PhD registration, will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.35,000/- after Ph. D. registration in the third year.

 Selection Procedure: All candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in an Online test and an interview. The Online test for MSc will emphasize on general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills at appropriate levels. In addition MSc students will have to answer a section either on Economics or Mathematics at the undergraduate level.

The Online test for PhD will emphasize on English, Analytical ability, General understanding of Economic Environment and Mathematical skills at appropriate levels

The Online test will be held on Saturday, 08 May  2021 (afternoon hours) at the following centres: Ahmedabad/Gandhi Nagar, Aizawl, Bangalore, Benares, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh-Mohali, Chennai, Dehradun, Ernakulam/Cochin, Guwahati, Hyderabad/Rangareddy, Indore, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata/Greater Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai/Greater Mumbai/Thane/Navi Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Panjim, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram and Visakhapatnam.

The test venue will be notified in the call letter. Based on the performance in the Online test, short listed candidates will be called for an interview at IGIDR around second or third week of June 2021. The Interviews will be held online.
