New Delhi, 11 April 2022:  The application portal will open for the next cycle of National Eligibility Test (NET) of the University Grants Commission (UGC). December 2021 and June 2022 Cycles will be merged, which will be held in first/second week of June 2022. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the exam schedule soon.

Jagadesh Kumar, the UGC Chairman in a Twitter message said “For the merged cycles of December 2021 and June 2022, the next UGC-NET will be conducted in first/second week of June 2022. The exact schedule will be announced once NTA finalizes the dates.”

Previously, the UGC-NET December 2020 & June 2021 (merged cycles) was conducted by NTA in 3 Phases panning over 18 days at 837 centres in 239 cities across the country. Phase I was conducted between 20 November 2021 to 05 December 2021, Phase II was conducted between 24 December to 27 December 2021 and Phase III was held on 04 January and 05 January 2022.

A total of 12.66 Lakh candidates had registered for the previous merged cycle of the test. More than 6.71 lakh candidates appeared the test.

UGC-NET is conducted twice every year. Due to postponement of December 2020 UGC-NET in view of COVID-19, the schedule of June 2021 UGC-NET had been delayed. In order to regularize the UGC-NET examination cycles, the National Testing Agency (NTA), with the concurrence of UGC, has merged both UGC-NET of December 2020 and June 2021 cycles so that they be conducted together in CBT mode.

Now December 2021 and June 2022 Cycles will be merged. The application portal by the NTA will be activated soon.
