Indore: Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore, has released admission notification for  PhD programme in specialized research areas of Physical, Chemical, Life and Engineering Sciences. RRCAT is a Constituent Institute of the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a Deemed to be University with NAAC “A” grade. The final selected PhD candidates will be eligible for fellowship benefits offered by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

As per the PhD admission notification issued by RRCAT the registration of online application will commence from 19 March 2017.  The closing date for online submission of application is 16 April 2017. The PhD 2017 program will start on 1 August 2017.

Fellowship Benefit: The institute informed that Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) Research Fellowships will be offered to PhD candidates.  Fellowship amount of Rs 25,000 per month will be offered for the first two years (as Junior Research Fellow) and  Rs 28,000 per month for the subsequent three years (as Senior Research Fellow), subject to satisfactory yearly progress.

As per the admission notification, PhD program will consist of course work (equivalent to at least 6 credits for students joining after MTech degree and 60 credits for students joining after MSc degree) and research work leading to PhD thesis.

Eligibility Conditions:

Educational Qualification:

For Physical Sciences: MSc degree in Physics with a minimum of 60% overall marks, and must have qualified Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2017) and/or CSIR-UGC NET (December 2015 and June/December 2016): JRF, not lecturership.

For Chemical Sciences: MSc degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 60% overall marks, and must have qualified CSIR-UGC NET (December 2015 and June/December 2016): JRF, not lecturership)/ GATE (i.e. GATE-2015, GATE-2016 and GATE-2017).

For Life Sciences: MSc degree in Life Sciences/ Biotechnology with a minimum of 60% overall marks, and must have qualified CSIR-UGC NET (December 2015 and June/December 2016): JRF, not lecturership)/ BET-2016/ GATE (i.e. GATE-2015, GATE-2016 and GATE-2017). Candidates having M.Sc. degree in Botany/ Agricultural Science background are not eligible.

For Engineering Sciences: Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree in Mechanical / Thermal/ Production / Mechatronics Engineering / Material Science, with First class or at least 60% marks or at least 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale and must have qualified GATE (i.e., GATE-2015, GATE-2016 and GATE-2017). The candidate must have Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/ Production/ Materials Engineering.

RRCAT mentioned that those applicants who are completing the qualifying degree in summer of 2017 can also apply, provided they have minimum of 60% overall marks in the completed semesters. If selected, the final degree mark sheet should be submitted by 1st November, 2017. 5 year integrated M.S. (of IISERs) will be treated at par with 5 year integrated M.Sc.

Age limit:  The applicant should be born on or after 1 August 1991.

Selection Procedure: The selection of the students for the doctoral programme will be a two-step process:  Screening of the applications; followed by an interview of the short-listed candidates by the Selection Committees.
