New Delhi, 15 March 2021: In India there are 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and there are seven Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs). These institutes carry Institutes of National Importance tag. For doctoral programmes, IITs and IISERs offer attractive Fellowships, known as Institute Fellowships or Junior Research Fellowships.
As on 15 March, there Six IITs and Three IISERs have announced PhD Admission for July-August 2021 semester. These institutes are popular destinations for PhD aspirants.

New Delhi, 13 March 2021: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, an Institution of Eminence (IoE), has released Admission Notification for PhD, Direct PhD and MS (R) Programmes – Semester I 2021-22. IIT Delhi offers 30 PhD Programmes with extensive choices of specializations. Full Time PhD Scholars are eligible for Teaching/Research Assistantship.
IIT Delhi informed that meritorious students with a bachelor’s degree (such as BTech.) are advised to directly apply for the PhD programmes if they wish to pursue doctoral research.

IIT Madras Announces PhD, Direct PhD & MS (by Research) Admission July 2021 with Fellowships
Chennai, 04 March 2021: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, an Institute of National Importance, has opened application window for PhD/Direct PhD/MS (by Research) Admission July 2021 Semester. Scholars admitted to PhD and MS programmes under Regular scheme are eligible for the following Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA).
Fellowships: Scholars admitted to PhD and M.S. programmes under Regular scheme are eligible for the following Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA). PhD Candidates will get Rs 31,000 /- Per Month while MS (By Research) candidates will get Rs 12,400 Per Month. They should work for 8 hours per week in the Departments to earn this assistantship.
Key Dates: The online application portal has opened from 01 March 2021. The last date of Receipt of Online Application is 30 April 2021.
IIT Bhubaneswar Announces PhD Admission 2021-22(Autumn Semester) with Institute Scholarship
Bhubaneswar, 14 March 2021: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar, an Institute of National Importance, has announced admission to PhD Programme under various disciplines from eligible candidates for 2021-22(Autumn Semester).
The PhD programmes are available under the following categories: Institute Scholar, Sponsored Scholar, and Project Scholar (Projects running at IIT Bhubaneswar). Institute Scholars will be eligible for Institutional Fellowships as per Ministry of Education norms.
Key Dates & Application Fees: The online admission has opened since 10 March 2021. The closing date for submission of application is 20 April 2021.
IISER Pune Announces PhD Admission with Fellowships for August 2021
Pune, 12 March 2021: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, an Institute of National Importance, has released PhD Admission for August 2021 session.
In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, PhD interviews may be held online. IISER Pune mentioned that clear guidelines or any changes in procedure will be provided to candidates shortlisted for the interviews.
Fellowships: All selected candidates will be eligible to receive JRF fellowship as per the funding agency norms, in vogue.
