University of Mysore PhD Entrance Examination 2017-18; PhD admission open for 948 seats in 51 subjects

Mysore:  University of Mysore, a public state university in Karnataka, has invited applications from eligible candidates for PhD Entrance Exam 2017-18. The PhD Entrance Exam will be held on 29 October 2017. There are a total of number of 948 PhD seats available in 51 various subjects.  The list of subjects with number of vacant seats is given at the bottom of the story.

The application form is available in the website (official website of University of Mysore) from 20 August 2017 to 09 September 2017. The application fee is Rs. 2000/- for General Merit candidates: while for SC/ST/Cat-1/ candidates application fee is Rs. 750/-. Candidates seeking exemptions the Entrance examination should apply without paying the entrance examination fee.

Conditions of Eligibility: Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-1/A candidate who completed Master’s Degree prior to 19th Sep 1991) or equivalent grade under grading system, in their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from the recognized Universities/Institutions.

The candidates have to satisfy other eligibility conditions stipulated in the regulations. There is no upper age limit to apply for the PhD Entrance test.

Exemption categories from Entrance Examination: The notification mentioned that the following candidates are exempted from the entrance exam and they can apply for Provisional Registration by consulting the guide in the subject of their interest after verifying their eligibility.

1) Candidates who have qualified JRF fellowships/lectureship through UGC/CSIR-NET/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/ICAR Examinations/SLET (K-SET)/GATE are exempted from Entrance Test.

2) Candidates, who have completed M.Phil Course are also exempted from the entrance test provided the M.Phil/Equivalent course was through an entrance examination.

3) However all such candidates have to undergo an interview before the probable guide (s) and obtain the consent/acceptance letter from the guide, if vacancies are available.

Note:  RGNF/MANF/Project Fellows are not exempted from Ph.D Entrance test. Candidates seeking exemptions the Entrance examination are also advised to apply without paying the entrance examination fee.

Pattern and Syllabus of PhD Entrance Test: The PhD Entrance Test will have two parts: Part A shall contain 50 Objective type questions of one Mark each; and Part B shall contain an Essay type/short answer question for 50 marks. The duration of the examination will be 3(Three) hours only.  The notification informed that syllabus for the entrance test is available subject-wise in the University website.

How to apply: As per the notification released by University of Mysore, the candidates should fill the application form online available on the official website of University of Mysore: http://uni-mysore.ac.in , and pay the application fee and submit completed application form (hard copy) to The Co-ordinator, PhD Entrance and Course work Cell, Directorate of Research, University of Mysore, Mysore-570005.
