New Delhi:  The University of Queensland (UQ), a top 50 global university in Australia, and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), an Institution of global repute, have joined hands to create a joint PhD program that will support PhD scholars to deliver global impact.

The University of Queensland and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Academy of Research (UQIDAR) now invites applications from exceptional candidates with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities and social sciences, for PhD research projects commencing in July 2020.

It is anticipated that the majority of students (i-students) will be recruited into the joint-PhD program in Delhi, and there will be a small cohort of Australia-anchored scholars (q-students). i-students will spend 3 years in India and a minimum of one year in Australia while q-students will spend 3 years in Australia and one year in India.

PhD Scholars will gain a joint global qualification from two institutions (UQ and IITD) in 4 years and receive a generous scholarship;

Interested applicants are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by 15 March.

There are two PhD pathways to consider: i-students and q-students.

Indian nationals and international applicants (with citizenship other than Australia), will be considered for admission as i-students. i-students will spend their first year of study at IITD before completing one year (or more) at UQ. They would then complete the remainder of their studies at IITD.

Australian domestic students will be considered for admission as q-students. q-students will spend their first year of study at UQ before completing one year (or more) at IITD.

Applicants must meet the following requirements for consideration for entry into the joint PhD program.

Eligibility Conditions for Indian Students 9 (i-students)

Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology • CGPA of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale ,Aggregate percentage of 65%, First Class (wherever awarded) No requirement.However, a high score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR,ICMR, DST-INSPIRE will be given due consideration.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology CGPA of 8.00 on a 10.00 point scale
• Aggregate percentage of 80%
• First Class (wherever awarded)
No requirement for candidates from CFTI’s.
For others a High score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE
Master’s Degree in Sciences • CGPA of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale
• Aggregate percentage of 65%
• First Class (wherever awarded)
High score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE
Master’s Degree in Arts or Humanities • CGPA of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale
• Aggregate percentage of 65%
• First Class (wherever awarded)
High score in UGC-NET
Note: While it is not a requirement that all candidates possess a valid GATE, GRE, NET, CSIR score (or scores of any competitive entrance test), it is expected that successful applicants will have a good score in any of these many exams in order to be competitive.
Candidates without a valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC/DBT award can be considered for admission to the joint-PhD program if they have a minimum of two years of professional work experience in lieu of GATE score and if they meet all other eligibility requirements.

Selection Process: If the candidates EOI is of interest, she/he will be invited to apply on the online applications portal between 24 February – 22 March. At that time you will need select projects of interest and supply official documentation including grade sheets and a Statement of Purpose that addresses the needs of your preferred project.
