Bangalore/Mumbai: India, the hub of the world’s third largest startup ecosystem, is betting big on startup story. Both in the terms of economic contribution and employment generation, the contribution of startup is remarkable. As of now in India, 11 internet companies are in the unicorn club, and are valued at over a billion dollars. A unicorn is a start-up company valued at over $1 billion. Now, question remains who’s likely to be the next Indian unicorn?
Tracxn, a startup intelligence and market research platform, has picked 50 ‘soonicorns’ — tech startups that are next big things in the startup story and may see follow-on funding, and have the potential to become billion dollar valued company. Tracxn analysts prepared the list of 50 soonicorn companies primarily on following parameters: funding and valuation, and the company’s disclosed growth metrics — such as GMV, seller base, clients, downloads, social media followers, etc. when applicable.
The list includes Bigbasket, CarTrade.com, Grofers, Ecom Express Pvt. Ltd., OYO, Pepperfry, Delhivery, Practo, BookMyShow, BYJU’s, Manthan, Lenskart and others. Out of these list one Ed-Tech startup – BYJU’s and one HR Tech – HackerRank feature in the club while GreyOrange, robotics and automation company, finds a place in the list.
Out of these 50 startups, nine are Fintech companies, nine are in the e-commerce space, and five are from the enterprise/SaaS segment. The list also has five logistics companies and four health tech startups.
Tracxn picked companies that are market and category leaders in large addressable markets, which have a first mover advantage in a globally validated business model. The data platform said in their blog that parameters used vary based on the type of business model, and the sector it operates in.
The Delhi-NCR region represents for 18 soonicorns, while Bangalore has 16. Mumbai accounts for eight soonicorns, while Chennai has four. Pune, Jaipur and Kolkata also find a spot in the soonicorn club. As per Tracxn analysis, the average age of a soonicorn is seven years, one month while soonicorns have raised $71.56M on average.
