Mumbai: Common Admission Test (CAT) 2016, the most coveted national entrance for admission into India’s premier B-Schools including 20 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs), notification is expected to be released tomorrow 31 July 2016. The most talking point is the structure of the test of CAT 2016 which is expected to have major changes. Last year candidates got additional ten minutes for the exam, the total duration was 180 minutes. As per the pattern of CAT 2015, the examination had three sections; Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC).
This year Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will conduct the CAT 2016 while last year test was conducted by IIM Ahmedabad. Nearly 2.18 lakh candidates had registered for CAT 2015 while only 1.80 lakh actually appeared for the exam. In addition to IIMs, there are more than 100 B-Schools in India which grant admission on the basis of CAT percentile. This year more than 2 lakh candidates are expected to register for CAT 2016.
There are nearly 3400 seats available for all 20 IIMs where more than two lakh candidates will compete to grab the seats. So, 17.1 seats are available for 1000 candidates. IIM Bangalore ranked first in the HRD Ministry’s NIRF Ranking 2016 whereas IIM Ahmedabad stood second in the ranking table. IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Udaipur featured at third, fourth and fifth places in NIRF Rankings 2016.
