Mumbai, 09 October 2023: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced PhD Admission for Spring Semester 2023-24. The online application portal has opened from 12 September 2023. The PhD classes will commence from 04 January 2024.

PhD Admission is available in the following categories:

Teaching Assistantship (TA) [Financial support as per MHRD norm]

Research Assistantship (RA)

Teaching / Research Assistantship Through Project (TAP/RAP)

Fellowship Award (FA)

Sponsored Candidate (SW)

Self-financed – Indian Nationals, including those on Study Leave (SF)

Self-Financed Foreign Nationals (FRNSF)

Foreign Nationals with Indian Council for Cultural Relations Award (ICCR)

Institute Staff of IIT Bombay (IS)

Project Staff (PS)

External (EX)

College Teacher (CT)

Key Dates:

Availability of application forms – 12 September  2023

Last date for submission of completed application forms for Spring Semester – 20 October 2023

 The application fee is as follows:

Women candidates : Rs. 150/SC/

ST/PwD category candidates : Rs. 150/All

Other candidates : Rs. 300/The

For the Academic Year 2023-24, IIT Bombay has announced the sanctioned strength for PhD Programme. The total PhD Intake capacity for AY 2023-24 is 423 as compared to 445 in the previous years.  IIT Bombay will admit 423 PhD Scholars in AY 2022-23 through two Admission Semesters. For Autumn semester, the admission had closed.

Research Assistantship (RA): A candidate, selected for the Ph.D. Programme, at IIT Bombay will be eligible for the financial support under the RA category subject to the fulfilment  of criteria.

The assistantship is payable for a maximum duration of 5 years or up to the thesis submission, whichever is earlier. The monthly rate of assistantship is Rs. 35,000/ for the first 2 years and enhanced rate of Rs. 39,000/ for the remaining period.
