Axis Bank ties up with Banaras Hindu University to offer Banking course

Mumbai: Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi have come together to launch a specialized certification course in the banking sector. The bank will develop the course curriculum, course design, e-learning modules, structure and courseware along with Faculty of Commerce at BHU for its MCOM and MBA students.

The bank said in a statement that the certified course is designed to introduce the students to functioning of banking industry in India and to academically and vocationally prepare them for corporate world.  Axis Bank will conduct lectures through domain experts /faculty before the end of each semester pertaining to Banking & Insurance. The bank will also provide an internship of 6 weeks (at the end of 2nd semester), at any branch of Axis Bank that will help them to complete on the job training and also acquaint them with working in the bank.

Commenting on the launch of new banking course, Rajkamal Vempati, Head-Human Resources, Axis Bank, said “We have always believed in identifying and nurturing talent in the Banking sector. This industry-academia partnership further reinforces our commitment in building a talent pool of qualified industry-ready professionals and in the process, creating more job opportunities for the youth.”

“We will continue to impart knowledge and desired skill-sets at grass root levels to ensure that we create industry-ready professionals; and also create more job opportunities for the youths in the banking sector” Mr Vempati further added.

Through this strategic partnership, BHU and Axis Bank will offer courses like – Masters in Commerce(MCOM), Master of Financial Management (MFM), Master of Financial Management (Risk & Insurance) MFM – RI, Master of Foreign Trade (MFT). The Program will be launched in a phased manner, starting with first batch commencing from academic session 2015-16. The course will offer a right blend of classroom and on-the-job training, equipping students on the desired knowledge and technical skill-sets required in the banking sector.

Prof AR Tripathi, Dean Faculty of Commerce, Banaras Hindu University said, “With growing importance of commerce sector, we plan to train the graduates and equip them with the requisite talents and competencies to prepare them for challenges in banking industry.”  With support from Axis Bank, BHU has strategically planned this course to nurture the commerce industry by imparting the necessary banking knowledge and skills to the students, Prof Tripathi added.
