Kotayyam: Mahatma Gandhi University, a state-related public university based in Kerala, has invited applications from eligible candidates for PhD Admission 2017. There are 381 PhD seat are available for the academic year 2017-18 under its 23 departments. The closing date for submission of application is 31 May 2017.

The PhD Written Aptitude Test will be held on 24 June 2017 (10.00 am to 01.00 pm). The Centre of Written Aptitude Test – 2017  is C. M. S College, Kottayam. The application fee is Rs 11,00 /- for each Applicant while for SC/ST the fee is Rs 500/-. Online Registration closes on 31 May 2017 (5.00 pm) while the last date of receiving the hard Copies is 31 May 2017 (5.00 pm).

Eligibility to apply:

Candidates who have passed the Post-Graduate examination in any discipline of Mahatma Gandhi University or of other Universities recognised as eligible thereto, securing not less than 55% marks in the aggregate, are eligible to apply for the Written Aptitude Test.

For SC/ST candidates the minimum marks required for application is 50% in the aggregate in the Post Graduate Examination.

Candidates awaiting results of their PG Examinations can also apply, but they shall qualify the PG Degree on or before 31.07.2017.

All the candidates who desire to apply for Ph.D. admission in the University Schools/Departments/Inter University Centres and approved Research Centres (except the categories noted below, who are exempted) have to appear for the Written Aptitude Test.

The university informed that candidates who are exempted from appearing for WAT 2017 need not apply now. They need to apply directly for Ph.D registration when the notification is issued later.

Exemption from the Written Aptitude Test:

The following categories of candidates are exempted from appearing for the Written Aptitude Test.

  1. JRF awardees
  2. UGC Teacher Fellows
  3. M.Phil. & M.Tech. (all discipline), MD & MS (Modern Medicine, Homoeopathy and Ayurveda) Degree holders in the subject of research concerned.
  4. Regular and permanent teachers from the University Departments and the Government/Aided Colleges affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University.
  5. Candidates who have qualified in the NET/SLET/GATE/GPAT,JEST,RGNF or other tests conducted by such Government bodies as UGC,CSIR,ICAR/ICMR.
  6. DST Women Scientist Awardees
  7. KSCST/INSPIRE/MANF Fellowship Awardees
  8. Scientists from the Accredited R & D Institutions.
