New Delhi: The Department of Science and Technology has invited applications through the SERB for Post Doctoral Research Fellowship under the following schemes: SERB Indo-US Post Doctoral Research Fellowship and SERB Overseas Post Doctoral Research Fellowship (Other than US).  For SERB Indo-US Post Doctoral Research Fellowship, the last date for submission of application is 28 February 2017 while for SERB Overseas Post Doctoral Research Fellowship (Other than US), the deadline for submission of application is 15 March 2017.

SERB Indo-US Post Doctoral Research Fellowship program: The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB, a statutory body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has partnered with the bi-national Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) to support SERB Indo-US Post Doctoral Research Fellowship for Indian researchers. The primary aim of the fellowship program is to build national capacity in frontier areas of science and engineering.

Eligibility for SERB Indo-US Post Doctoral Research Fellowship:  As per the call for application notification for the scheme, the candidates should be below 35 years of as on 31 December 2016.  Candidates must be Indian citizens and have completed their PhD degree from Public funded R&D Laboratory/Recognized Academic Institution/ University/College in India. Those are employed as on date should have completed their PhD degree after 31 December 2016. There must be a letter of acceptance from a US host.

Duration and Specific Areas of research: The fellowship is for 12 months. The specific areas of research are as followed: Advance Manufacturing, Big Data, Bio-energy, Cognitive Science, Complex Systems, Cyber security, Encryption and decryption, Energy, Genetic to Physiology, High Performance Computation in Physics, High Performance Computation  Chemistry, High Performance Computation in Biology, High Performance Computation in Mathematics, Humanoid Robotics, Mechnotronics, Mental Health, Modeling, Imaging, Algorithms and Combinatorial, Petroleum and Petro-Chemical Engineering,  Quantum Computing and Spintronics, Science of Climate Change, Glaciology, Sustainable Chemistry, and Theoretical Mathematical Science.

Fellowship Benefits: The selected candidates will be eligible for monthly stipend, personal contingency grant, Overseas Medical Insurance, Conference Allowance, Return Air-free.

SERB Overseas Post Doctoral Research Fellowship (Other than US):  The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) has launched SERB Overseas Postdoctoral fellowship (SERBOPDF) to build national capacity in frontier areas of Science and Engineering, which are of interest to India by providing postdoctoral fellowship for a period of one year (extendable to one more year subject to evaluation). The Program admits candidates in identified areas and sends them to top institutions around the globe, other than USA and also to institutions where internationally acclaimed scientists are working.

Eligibility for SERB Overseas Post Doctoral Research Fellowship (Other than US): As per the scheme guidelines, the applicant should have completed PhD degree in science and engineering not earlier than the preceding two years from recognized institutions in India. For researchers who are in regular employment, the 2 years period may be relaxed but age should not exceed 35 years.  The applicant should himself/herself correspond with the proposed host institution abroad for their postdoctoral work. He/she is required to produce evidence, in the form of a letter of acceptance from the host institution along with merits/uniqueness of the host institute in the proposed research area.

Proposed research areas: Materials, Energy, Sustainable Chemistry, Quantum. Computing and Spintronics, Complex systems, Theoretical Mathematical Science, Big Data, Mechanobiology / Physical Biology, Bio-energy, Genetic to Physiology, Mental Health, High Performance Computation in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, Humanoid Robotics, Cognitive Science, Mechnotronics, Advanced Manufacturing, Cyber security, Encryption and decryption, Petroleum and Petro-Chemical Engineering, Science of Climate Change, Glaciology, Modeling, Imaging, Algorithms and Combinatorial Optimizations.

For format, guidelines and other details of the SERB-OPDF Program the interested candidates should refer the scheme features on the official website of the SERB (www.serb.gov.in) and the official website of Department of Science and Technology (www.dst.gov.in). The last date of receiving the application is 15th March 2017.

Fellowship Benefits:  The selected fellows will be paid a monthly fellowship amount equivalent to US $ 3000, one time Contingency / Preparatory allowances of Rs.60,000/- to cover visa fee, airport transfer charges, insurance etc., Overseas Medical Insurance in India and USA of Rs 20,000/- and Conference grants (if applicable) of Rs 74,000.
