New Delhi: JEE Main 2017 results were declared on 27 March 2017. The admission to BTech courses in the prestigious National Institutes of Technology or popularly known as NITs will be based on JEE Main 2017 scores. In India, there are 31 NITs.
As of 2017, the total number of seats for undergraduate programs is 18,013 and for post graduate programs is 8,158 in all 31 NITs. Since 2015, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch and MPlan (CCMT) are responsible for conducting the admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate programs respectively in all NITs.
Among 31 NITs, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, is crowned as the best NITs in India, as per India Ranking Report 2017, released by Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) under NIRF 2017. NIT Tiruchirappalli stands at 11th place among the engineering institutes category of NIRF 2017. National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Odisha, bags second position among NITs with overall ranking of 12th in the engineering category.
National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, Karnataka secures third place while National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh finds fourth spot among NITs with overall position of 22nd and 34th places, respectively in the engineering category.
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh features at the fifth place among NITs while Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, secures sixth place among NITs with overall position of 42. National Institute of Technology Calicut, Kerala stands seventh place among NITs with overall rank of 44.
Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat finds 8th place while National Institute of Technology, Silchar, Assam finds ninth spot among NITs. National Institute of Technology Durgapur, West Bengal secures tenth spot with overall ranking of 55 among engineering institutes in India.
The other top fifteen NITs are as followed: National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh (11th rank among NITs, 59th among engineering category); National Institute of Technology,Kurukshetra, Haryana (12th rank among NITs, 60th among engineering category); Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, Madya Pradesh (13th among NITs, 61 among engineering category); Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur (14th among NITs, 70 among engineering category); National Institute of Technology Manipur, Manipur (15th rank among NITs, 87 among engineering category).
National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya stands at the 100th spot among the engineering institutes in India.
A total of 16 NITs feature among top 100 engineering institutes. A total of nine NITs feature among India’s to 50 engineering institutes.
