Kharagpur: India Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur has released admission notification for PhD programmes in the Autumn Semester 2018-19. The PhD Programme are offered in the following categories: Regular, Sponsored and Individual Fellowship (i.e. CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/INSPIRE categories). The disciplines offered by the institute are as followed: Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture & Regional Planning, Humanities & Social Sciences, Rural Development, Law and Management. Admission to reserved category candidates will be done as per the Government of India notification.
Key Dates: The commencement of online application form submission is 19 March 2018.The closing date for closure for submission of online application form is 18 April 2018. Application fee is Rs.1000/- for Unreserved/OBC/Transgender candidates and Rs.500/- for SC/ST/PwD/Women candidates. The Last date for receipt of hard copy of completed application (for project sponsored category) duly countersigned by Dean(SRIC) at the Academic(PGS&R) Section is 27 April 2018.Test & Interview to be conducted in the respective Departments/Centers/Schools (for shortlisted candidates) is 28─31 May 2018 & 01 June 2018. Date of admission in the Ph.D. programme for selected candidates is July 10, 2018(Tuesday).

As per the IIT, Kharagpur PhD Regulations, Minimum qualification required for admission to the Ph.D. program is a degree in any one of the areas given below

B.Arch. (Bachelor of Architecture) B.Sc (Engg.)
PG Diploma in Management of 2-year duration (after BA/B.Sc/B.Com)
MBBS degree with compulsory one year internship completed
OR
A degree equivalent to any of the above
(b)Tech (Master of Technology) M. S.
- P. (Master of City planning) M. E.
- P. (Master of Regional Planning) M. Sc. (Engg.,)
Arch. (Master of Architecture) M. Phil.

All candidates seeking admission to the Ph. D. program shall have to possess requisite marks/grades in qualifying examination as shown below:
(i) 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examination in
Engineering/Science/Commerce/ Management or
(ii) 55% in Humanities or Social Sciences (or a CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale).
(c) Candidates for award of Institute Research Assistantship will have to possess a valid GATE score that is above the cut off level. Candidates who have merely qualified in NET examination but have not got a fellowship will not qualify for Institute Research Assistantship.
Candidates with M.Tech or equivalent qualifying degree [as laid down in (b)] will also be given Institute Research Assistantship.
(d) IIT B.Tech.’s with CGPA >= 8.00 be given direct admission in Ph.D programme with assistantship.
