New Delhi, 25 October 2017: IIIT-Hyderabad’s Machine Learning Laboratory announced Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, a new state-of-the-art program for technology professionals. The program will be executed in association with TalentSprint.

As one of the largest AI research clusters in the country, the institute is seeing a  rising demand from the industry for AI and ML advisory services, technology prototypes, and capacity building. American research and advisory firm Gartner Inc. recently forecasted the creation of 2.3 million jobs in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) within the next three years.

While some of the top engineering institutions in the country have strong academic and research programs in AI and ML, the number of engineers that graduate from them is still quite negligible in comparison to demand in these areas from the industry.

In order to strengthen the competitiveness of the Indian IT sector, IIIT-Hyderabad has embarked on a series of initiatives to disseminate its deep knowledge of AI, ML and DL across the industry. This 4-month program on the Foundations of AI and ML is the first such initiative. The hands-on teaching approach will enable engineers in industry to build deep ML programming capabilities in their companies.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. P. J. Narayanan, Director of IIIT-Hyderabad, said “We are pleased to launch this high impact program that will enable software engineers to build well-designed AI and ML solutions. We are taking a holistic view. Beyond our excellence in technology and research, we are also conducting studies on the societal impact of AI. We are building awareness and appreciation of these new-age technologies among management and top leaders as well.”

Dr. Santanu Paul, Co-Founder and CEO of TalentSprint, said, “It has been repeatedly said in the last year that AI/ML is the next industrial revolution. From self-driving cars to chat-bots to robo-advisors, the new age of computing is already upon us. We believe that this program is the bridge that will help today’s technology professionals successfully cross over to the new era of automation and intelligent systems. We are very excited to work with IIIT-Hyderabad to deliver this world-class offering”.

Commenting on the launch, R. Chandrasekhar, President of NASSCOM, said, “The fourth Industrial Revolution is about harnessing complex, high-volume, high-speed data into insights for decision-making. It’s true for enterprises and to no lesser extent for governments. Unarguably, proliferation of Deep-tech such as AI / Machine Learning is central to this revolution. It is most commendable that IIIT-H through its outreach program has decided to offer its deep research experience for the benefit of working professionals, through a first-of-its-kind 4-month program on AI and Machine Learning Techniques. Indeed, it is an important step towards capacity building. I am confident that it would prove highly beneficial to the industry while enabling it to leverage the new opportunities”

The program will be directed by Dr. C.S. Jawahar, a leading expert in the field of AI and ML. He will be supported through the program by a team of academicians and industry leaders. Industry professionals may apply for the program by visiting: http://cie.iiit.ac.in/aiml/ .
