Admission open for MSc, MPhil or PhD programmes in Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) Mumbai

Mumbai: Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), a research institute set up by Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai, has released Admission Notification for 2018. The following programmes are available: MSc (Economics) and MPhil/PhD (Development Studies).

Key Dates: The closing date for receipt of Online Application form is 06 April 2018. The online application fee is Rs. 500/- only. For SC/ST/PD, the online application fee is Rs.100/- only.

MSc (Economics): This is a two-year programme commencing on 23 July 2018.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. programme includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: BA/BSc in Economics/BCom/BStat/BSc (Physics or Mathematics)/BTech/BE with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.

Need-based scholarships are available for Masters students as per Institute’s norms.

MPhil/PhD (Development Studies): These are interdisciplinary programmes commencing on 23 July  2018. The duration of M.Phil programme is two years and that of PhD programme is four years.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to the MPhil/PhD programme includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: MA/MSc in Economics/M Stat/MSc (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/MBA/MTech/ME/BTech/BE with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines.

The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.

Stipend: MPhil/PhD students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000/- in the first two years. Those students, who fulfill the terms and conditions for PhD registration, willreceive a monthly stipend of Rs.35,000/- after Ph. D. registration in the third year.

Selection Procedure: All candidate s will be selected on the basis of their performance in an Online test and an interview. The Online test will be separate for MSc and MPhil/PhD candidates. The Online test for both MSc and MPhil/PhD will emphasize general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills at appropriate levels. In addition MSc students will have to answer a section either on Economics or on Mathematics at the undergraduate level.

Centres for Online Test: The Online test will be held on 22 April 2018 (Sunday) at the following centres: Ahmedabad/Gandhi Nagar, Aizawl, Bangalore, Benares, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh-Mohali, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad/Rangareddy, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata/Greater Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai/Greater Mumbai/Thane/Navi Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram.

The test venue will be notified in the call letter. Based on the performance in the Online test, short listed candidates will be called for an interview at IGIDR around second or third week of June 2018.
