NISER Bhubaneswar PhD Programme 2017 Summer Session admission open: JRF is available

Bhubaneswar: National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), an autonomous Institute under Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, has invited applications from eligible candidates for admission to PhD Programme. These PhD courses will commence from 25 July 2017 in the following schools of basic sciences at NISER, Bhubaneswar: School of Biological Sciences (SBS), School of Chemical Sciences (SCS), School of Physical Sciences (SPS), School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS), and School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS).

School of Humanities and Social Sciences is offering PhD programme in areas of research under the disciplines of Economics, Psychology, Sociology and English. The online submission of application has commenced from 02 March 2017. The closing date for submission of online application is 1 April 2017 (Saturday). NISER Bhubaneswar informed that the institute does not demand any entrance fee from the candidates who apply for PhD program.

Eligibility Conditions:

Age:  Not more than 28 years on 1 April 2017 (Born on/after 2nd April 1989).

Biological Science:  60% in MTech or Masters in any branches of Biology, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. Students with Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics having interest in pursuing a career in Biology are also encouraged to apply.

Chemical Sciences: 60% in Masters in Chemistry or allied fields. Student with masters in any branches of Natural or MTech in Applied chemistry or Computer Sciences with interest in pursuing career in Chemistry.

Physical Sciences: 60% or equivalent GPA cumulatively till the last year/semester examination appeared in MSc majoring in Physics or ME/MTech in Applied Physics.

Mathematical Sciences: 60% in Masters in Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science.

Humanities and Social Sciences: 60% in Masters in Social Sciences and allied disciplines.

PhD programmes under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences are available in the disciplines of Economics, Psychology, Sociology and English.

Candidates should have qualified the CSIR-UGCNET/GATE/GPAT/JEST/INSPIRE (Doctoral fellowship under AORC Scheme)/JGEEBILS or any other equivalent national level examination, valid for the current year in the relevant area of research.

Financial Support: NISER provides scholarship of Rs 25,000/- for first two years, which will subsequently be enhanced to Rs 28,000/- for remaining three years.

Selection Procedure: As per the NISER, the selection committee of the respective schools will short-list the candidates among those who meet the minimum educational qualifications and satisfy additional criteria which each school may set as deemed necessary. The short-listed candidates will be called for an interview, supplemented by a written test, if necessary, for the admission.
