Exclusive By Rudra Narayan Sahoo, New Delhi: The exam schedule and information brochure of Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced) 2017 has been released yesterday (14 October 2016). As per the notification of JEE Advanced 2017, the exam will be held on 21 May 2017 (Sunday).  Registration for JEE (Advanced) 2017 will commence on 28 April 2017 (Friday). The registration with late fee will close on 03 May 2017.

As per the notification on key dates, JEE Main 2017 (offline exam) will be held on 02 April 2017 (Sunday). Results of JEE (Main) 2017 will be out on 27 April 2017.  For the first time JEE (Advanced) 2017 will be held in six overseas centres: Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Singapore.  Here, SkillOutlook presents 10 key points on JEE Advanced 2017 exam.

(1) JEE (Advanced) 2017 on 21 May 2017 & Schedule: As per the information brochure of the exam, the paper 1 of JEE (Advanced) 2017 is scheduled to be held at 09.00-12.00 IST while the paper 2 at 14.00-17.00 (IST). The JEE (Advanced) resultswill be declared on 11 June 2017 (Sunday).

(2) Key Dates:  In addition to the exam dates, here find other key dates are as followed:

JEE (Main) 2017 [Offline exam]: SUN, 02-04-2017

Results of JEE (Main) 2017:          THU, 27-04-2017

Registration for JEE (Advanced) 2017:     FRI, 28-04-2017, 10:00 IST to TUE, 02-05-2017, 17:00 IST

Registration with Late Fee:          WED, 03-05-2017 to THU, 04-05-2017, 17:00 IST

(3) Application Fees:  The application fee for female candidates and ST/SC/PwD category candidates is Rs 1,200 while for all other Indian candidates is Rs 2,400. For non-Indian SAARC Candidates, application fee is USD 80 while all other Foreign Candidates is USD 135. Candidates applying for JEE Advance 2017 who wish to appear for the exam at overseas centers will have to pay USD 270.

(4) Foreign exam centres: For the first time, JEE Advanced entrance will held in foreign countries from 2017. JEE Advanced 2017 will be held in the following overseas locations:  Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Singapore.

(5) Eligibility:  Indian nationals (including PIO/OCI) who wish to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2017 must write Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2017 which will be held in the month of April 2017.  All the candidates must fulfil each and every one of the following five criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2017. Criterion 1 – Performance in JEE (Main) 2017: Candidates should be among the top 2,20,000 (including all categories) by scoring positive marks in Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2017. The percentages of various categories are: 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and the remaining 50.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these four categories, 3% horizontal reservation is available for PwD (including Dyslexic) candidates. Criterion 2 – Age limit: Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1992. Five years relaxation is given to SC, ST and PwD candidates, i.e., these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1987. Criterion 3 – Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years. Therefore, candidates who appeared in JEE (Advanced) 2016 for the first time are also eligible.  (6) 23 IITs with tentative 10,572 undergraduate engineering seats: Top rank holders of JEE Advanced will be eligible to secure a seat in one of the 23 IITs (including ISM Dhanbad) in India. These prestigious engineering institutions offer tentative 10,572 undergraduate engineering seats to engineering aspirants. Four new IITs (IIT Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), IIT Jammu, IIT Dharwad (Karnataka) and IIT Goa) have also started functioning from the academic year 2016-17.

(7) Exam pattern almost same as previous year: As per the brochure, the exam pattern is almost same that of previous year. JEE Advanced 2017 is being organized by IIT Madras. In order to appear for JEE Advanced 2017, candidates have to first clear JEE Mains.

(8) Other institutes accept JEE (Advanced) ranks:  In addition to IITs, there are many centrally funded institutes use JEE (Advanced) ranks for admission into their undergraduate programmes:  Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc); Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) located in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati; Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram; Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli; and Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy, Visakhapatnam.

(9) Grievances:  All stages of JEE (Adv) 2017 will be conducted with transparency. For any grievance relating to JEE (Adv) 2017, the candidate can write to the Chairman of the Zonal IIT, or to the Organizing Chairman of JEE (Adv) 2017 for clarification.

(10) Joint Seat Allocation: The seats across IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Govt. Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) will be allocated by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). All the candidates who are eligible for admission will have to participate in the joint seat allocation process by filling in their choices of the courses. The detailed instructions for filling-in the choices and the seat allotment procedure will be made available by JoSAA through Seat Allotment Brochure. The schedule of the joint seat allocation will be announced separately by JoSAA 2017.
