New Delhi: The Ministry of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences announced the list of scientists who have won Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards for 2016 and awarded them at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, in New Delhi yesterday 26 September 2016. The Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan gave away the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards to 11 scientists for 2016. Six young scientists also awarded as CSIR Young Scientist Awards 2016 on this occasion.

The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards for 2016, the most coveted awards in multidisciplinary science in India, were given under various categories. The award is named after the founder Director of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Dr Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar. It was first awarded in 1958.

Dr Niyaz Ahmed A S, Medical Sciences 2016, University of Hyderabad

Dr Partha Sarthi Mukherjee, Chemical Sciences 2016, IISC Bangalore

Dr Rishikesh Narayanan, Biological Sciences 2016, IISC Bangalore

Dr Suvendra Nath Bhattacharyya, Biological Sciences 2016, CSIR Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata

Dr Amlendu Krishna, Mathematical Sciences 2016, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai

Dr Naveen Garg, Mathematical Sciences 2016, IIT Delhi

Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences 2016, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad

Dr Subramanian Anantha Ramakrishna, Physical Sciences 2016, IIT Kanpur

Further, on the occasion of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, the CSIR awarded six young scientists as CSIR Young Scientist Awards 2016 under five categories for their contribution towards science and technology.

Ms. R V Lakshmi, Chemical Sciences, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore

Dr Sandip B Bharate, Chemical Sciences, CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu

Dr V Rakesh, Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean & Planetary Sciences, CSIR-Fourth Paradigm Institute, Bangalore

Dr BalaSubrahmanyam Pesala, Engineering Sciences, CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, Channai

Dr Pankaj Kumar, Physical Sciences (including instrumentation), CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi

In addition to above awards, CSIR Technology Awards 2016 under category of: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences including Engineering and Innovation were given away to various research institutes on the occasion of CSIR Foundation Day, 26th September 2016.
