New Delhi: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority also known as JoSAA, is an agency established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to manage and regulate the admission to 92 tertiary institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs and  GFTIs. The Round 2 of JoSAA 2018 is over.

A total number of 39,068 candidates have been allotted seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs upto JoSAA Round 2.

Out of which there are 32,763 male and 6,305 female candidates. The share of female students is more than 16%.

In the all 23 IITs, a total of 12,071 candidates have been allotted seats at the end of Round 2 of JoSAA 2018. Out of these there are 10,219 candidates are male and 1,852 are female. The share of girl students is more than 15%.

This year the share of girl students has seen a sharp rise from 9.15% in 2017 to 15.3% in 2018.

There are 23 Indian Institutes of Technology in India. In 2018, a total of 11,279 seats are being offered in the IITs, an increase of 291 seats from 2017. In addition to these seats, this year (i.e., in 2018), 800 supernumerary seats have been created specifically for female candidates in the IITs in order to improve the gender balance in IITs and as per directives of the MHRD, Government of India.
