Hyderabad, 23 July 2019: Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) is an autonomous research institution supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi and the Government of Telangana State. CESS in collaboration with Telangana University, Nizamabad invites applications from candidates below 35 years of age for admission into full time Ph.D. Programme in Development Studies for the academic year 2019-2020.
The Doctoral Programme is offered in the following subjects:
- Economics
- Sociology/Anthropology/Social Work
- Geography/Geo-Informatics
- Development Statistics (With Specialization in Econometrics)
- Commerce & Business Management (Related to Research Areas of CESS)
Admission Procedure: The PhD Programme at CESS is subject to the provisions of UGC regulations, 2016.
Eligibility: Candidates for admission to the PhD programme should qualify and pass Post-Graduate Degree with at least 55 percent marks or its equivalent Grade [50 percent marks for SC/ST/ Differently-Abled categories] in the concerned subject from any recognized university.

An M.Phil Degree in the subject concerned from any recognized university
OR
- b) Candidates qualified in the National level tests in UGC-NET, for JRF, State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) or Candidates in UGC – FDP (Faculty Development Programme) and Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship holders.
Total number of seats: 15 (The Centre reserves the right not to fill all the seats if
suitable candidates are not found).
Statutory reservations will be followed as per Government of Telangana norms.

Selection Process (as per the norms of UGC):
Entrance test: An entrance test will be conducted by the Centre for admission to the PhD Programme. Candidates who qualify in the entrance examination shall be called for an interview which will be conducted by the Centre.
Candidates are required to submit a research proposal of about 1500 words describing their research problem, objectives, tentative data sources and methodology of research along with their application. The medium of examination for the Entrance Test shall be English only.

Entrance test: 30thAugust 2019 from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at CESS
Interview of shortlisted candidates: 31stAugust and 01st September 2019, 10.00 a.m. onwards at CESS
Announcement of selection: 05th September 2019
Last date for payment of fee: 12th September 2019
Date of Joining: 16th September 2019
Financial Assistance/Fellowships: The selected Scholars may avail ICSSR fellowships on a competitive basis through a separate interview after registration, in the presence of ICSSR nominee. Scholars are encouraged to avail fellowship through various national fellowships such as UGC –JRF, RGNF etc. CESS may consider providing some partial financial assistance during the course work period (maximum one year) to deserving candidates who do not have any other sources of funding, subject to availability of funds.
