A special report, New Delhi: India is one of world education systems. As per All India Survey of Higher Education 2018-19, there are 913 Universities, 39,931 Colleges and 10,725 Stand Alone Institutions. More than 37 million students have enrolled in the higher education system.
Out of these, about 79.8% of the students are enrolled in Undergraduate level programme. 1,69,170 students are enrolled in PhD that is less than 0.5% of the total student enrolment.
For the next session, the many universities have already released admission notification for doctoral programmes. Here, SkillOutlook presents the Top Universities in India as per NIRF 2019 (National Institute for Ranking Framework). Here, IITs, NITs and Institutes of National Importance have not been considered.
Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore stands out the best universities. No doubt, IISc is the top universities confirmed by International Ranking Agencies. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) secures second spot in the ranking table. Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi grabs third position in the university category rankings.
The next three spots secured by University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad (4th) ; Calcutta University, Kolkata (5th); and Jadavpur University (6th). Anna University, Chennai secures 7th place.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, which secures 8th spot, emerges the top university among private universities. Manipal Academy of Higher Education, another private university, achieves 9th position. Savitribai Phule Pune University stands at 10th slot in the ranking table of NIRF 2019.
