Goa:  Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa has invited online applications for the admission to the PhD Program for the Academic Year 2019-2020 starting from January 2020. PhD is available for both Regular and Part Time basis.

Streams for PhD Programs: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, and Economics.

Key Dates: The online application portal has opened from 14 October 2019. The application portal will close 04 November 2019. Application Fee for Female candidates ,  SC/ST/PwD/EWS Category candidates is Nill. All other candidates : ₹ 200/- .

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for PhD (Regular)

1.1. General Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Streams1

1.1.1. For General/OBC(NCL)/EWS Categories

  1. Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

  1. B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 70% marks in aggregate

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 7.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

AND

Additional requirements as listed in Annexure 1 below.

1.1.2. For SC/ST/PwD

  1. Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

  1. B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 65% marks in aggregate.

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

AND

Additional requirements as listed in Annexure 1 below.

1.1.3. For IIT B.Tech. and M.Tech. degree holders

Candidates having a last qualifying degree (i.e. B.Tech. or M.Tech. degree) from IITs with a CGPA/CPI score of 8 on a scale of 10 and above may be admitted to the Ph.D. program under TA or TAP positions through written test and/or interview.

1.2. General Eligibility Criteria for Science Streams2

1.2.1. For GEN/OBC(NCL)/EWS

Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate.

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

1.2.2. For SC/ST/PwD

Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

1.3. General Eligibility Criteria for Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Stream3

1.3.1. For GEN/OBC(NCL)/EWS

Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

1.3.2. For SC/ST/PwD

Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate

OR

A minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

1.4. Annexure 1

Candidates eligible in sections 1.1.1(2), 1.1.2(2), I.2, and I.3 must fulfil ONE of the following additional requirements

  1. Valid GATE Score in the relevant streams.
  2. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or DST INSPIRE Fellowship in the relevant streams.
  3. Candidates having UGC-NET Lectureship (LS) or M.Phil. in relevant discipline are also eligible for Teaching Assistantship in addition to other academic qualifications in the Humanities & Social Sciences stream. Candidates with exceptional academic record without UGC-NET will also be considered based on their score in the written test and interview conducted by the SHSS.
  4. Minimum of 2 years of professional experience (acquired after obtaining the qualifying degree and completed before the starting of the semester in which admission is sought) in the relevant areas. This criterion is only applicable for 1.1.1(2) and 1.1.2(2) given above.
  5. School of Electrical Sciences and Mechanical Sciences offer TA through Project (TAP) category based on their availability. The eligibility criteria for TAP category is same is that of TA category. The duration of funding for a TAP category Ph.D. student is for a minimum of 3 years and only till the tenure of the project. The applicant must submit an undertaking for self-finance for the period after the project funding.
