Mumbai: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) saw a marginal rise of number application registrations in 20201. Overall, 8.82 lakh candidates have registered GATE 2021 compared to 8.77 Lakh candidates in GATE 2020.
The top three course choices for GATE 2021 are Mechanical Engineering (ME), Civil Engineering (CE) and Computer Science & Information Technology (CS). More than 1.6 lakh candidates registered for Mechanical Engineering paper while more than 1.5 Lakh candidates applied for Civil Engineering. Meanwhile, more than 1.4 Lakh candidates registered for Computer Science & Information Technology subject for GATE 2021.
In a first, IIT Bombay, the organizing institute of GATE 2021, has introduced humanities subjects as one paper. More than 14,000 candidates registered GATE 2021 to appear the test.
The bottom three subject choices of GATE 2021 are Statistics, Textile Engineering and Fibre Science, and Biomedical Engineering. Statistics saw a registration of 1,850 candidates while Textile Engineering and Fibre Science saw a registration of 1,970 candidates. Meanwhile, 2.160 number candidates applied for Biomedical Engineering subject in GATE 2021.
Subhasis Chaudhuri , Director of IIT Bombay said “We are extremely delighted to note that the oldest (youngest in terms of enthusiasm) person to register for GATE 2021 is 88 years, and the youngest is just 15 years old . On a different note we are very happy to see a very large number of students signing up for the two new papers on Environmental Science and Humanities.”
