New Delhi : After a hiatus of two years due to the pandemic, the Indraprastha Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT-Delhi), in continuance with its tradition, will be hosting a physical summer camp from 23 May to 18 June in the university campus. Due to the restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, the summer camps were held in hybrid mode for the last two years.

The inaugural ceremony of this year’s IIIT-Delhi summer camp was held on 23rd of May. Students from nearby government schools such as GBSSS Harkesh Nagar and GBSS Kalkaji have been invited to participate in the summer camp.

Students will be enriched with skill enhancement and academic learning on different subjects, including hands-on science, math, entrepreneurship, life skills, and communication & personality developments. IIIT-Delhi will also be hosting a series of activities for the students’ personality building and knowledge enhancement – like theater, arts & crafts, reading & writing, product development & selling, and other fun activities.

Every year since 2016, IIIT-Delhi has been organizing summer camps to create a unique environment of learning and skill building for underprivileged students from nearby government schools. The primary objective of the camps is to build the students’ confidence and aspirations by developing and / or enhancing their skills in communication, logic & aptitude, general science, and entrepreneurship. Using a mix of conventional and out-of-the-box courses, students of IIIT-Delhi as volunteers of the summer camp will impart knowledge and skills to the children in the four weeks long program.

On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of Summer Camp 2022, Prof. Ranjan Bose (Director, IIIT-Delhi) welcomed all the participants and said “We are delighted to have each one of you here on campus, physically. This summer camp is going to be a fun journey where you can learn so much. Our students who have organized this summer camp have put a lot of time and effort into giving this summer camp a fresh and revamped look. IIIT-Delhi had organized the summer camp last year as well, however, due to the pandemic, it was done in a virtual mode.”

He further added, “This summer camp will teach you skills that you may not learn in day-to-day life. There are three main objectives of this camp- 1) To inculcate self-confidence 2) To learn how to work in teams for which the most important aspect is to respect each other, and 3) Curiosity to gain knowledge and skills in whatever way you can, not just from the academic subjects, but also from the other skills which you will learn here such as entrepreneurship, art & craft, reading & writing, and theatre.”

Ms. R. Alice Vaz (Secretary, Directorate of Training and Technical Education) graced the event as the chief guest. As she welcomed the school students, she quoted “I feel elated to be part of the 6th edition of IIIT-Delhi’s Summer Camp 2022. Education is important and you all know that the Government of NCT of Delhi is striving to achieve excellence in education. However, building confidence and aspiration is more important to know the importance of education. I really appreciate IIIT-Delhi for curating such a wonderful activity and especially all the student coordinators from the past to think about such a unique camp.”

She also mentioned various programs that the Delhi government has established such as the Business Blasters program and their plan to give special admissions to the students selected through this program. Ms. R. Alice Vaz said, ” I am happy that IIIT-Delhi is also planning on that line and is introducing a new activity in this summer camp in the name of product development. Giving back to society always gives satisfaction, and here I would like to mention that we have introduced a Mentorship program being run by our state university. I am happy that IIIT-Delhi is also a part of that activity and is now organizing summer camp in line with the objective of this program. This camp covers art & craft, life skills, theatre and much more which will make you self-confident and motivated learners.”
