New Delhi, 09 February 2023: The schedule for Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) 2021 has been announced. Online application for JEST 2023 has opened from 27 January  2023. JEST 2023 is scheduled to be held on 11 March 2023 (Saturday).

JEST is a screening test for admission to PhD and Int. PhD programme of different participating institutes in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science or Neuroscience or Computational Biology. The JEST examination is conducted for two subjects only, namely, physics and theoretical computer science.  However, the qualifications for admission to the PhD and Int. PhD programme in various participating institutes are different.

You can appear for the JEST examination in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science but not for both.

Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) 2023 will be held in various cities across India.

Key Dates:

Last date for submission of online applications and payment of application fee is 25 February 2023.

JEST-2023 examination is tentatively scheduled to be held on Saturday, 11 March  2023.

Candidates must apply online. A non-refundable application fee of Rs.800 (Rs.400 for SC/ST Male applicants and Non-SC/ST Female

The Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) (statutory body established through an Act of Parliament) recognizes JEST as a National Eligibility Test (NET). Fellows working in SERB programmes and qualified in NET are eligible to get enhanced fellowship.

There are 33 Partcipating Institutes which use JEST score for admission into PhD and Int PhD programmes in physics and theorertical computer science / neuroscience.  Some of these are as followed:

Bose Institute

Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai

HRI (Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad)

International centre for theoretical sciences (TIFR)

Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

IISER Pune

IISER Bhopal

IISER Mohali

IISER Kolkata

IISER Thiruvananthapuram

IISER Tirupati

Indian Institute of Space Science  and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram:

Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore

National Brain Research Centre, Manesar

And Others.

A total number of 13,489 candidates appeared in the JEST 2020 Physics exam. Meanwhile, a total number of 717 candidates have appeared in the Jest 2020 Computer Science examination.

JEST score is valid for only one year.
