On its Platinum Jubilee Celebration Year, XLRI – Xavier School of Management organized the first International Finance Conference as part of the ongoing celebration, marking the Institute’s consistent persistence to achieve academic excellence and promote research fineness. The Institute was established in 1949 and is among the premier business schools in the country. It was the first to start management education in India.

The two-day Conference on “Climate Change and Energy Transition: The Role of Green Finance in Sustainable Development” was held on 13-14th September 2024 in the institute’s Jamshedpur Campus. The program included research paper presentations by research scholars and faculty members from various leading institutes both from India and abroad and thought-provoking discussions by industry leaders aiming to foster a deeper understanding of the consequences of climate risk on the human community and the role of the financial world to aid and explore a greener and sustainable society.

The event inauguration was attended by the Dean (Administration and Finance), Dean (Academics),  Faculty members of the Institute, and research scholars and dignitaries from different universities and Business Schools from India and abroad. In his opening address, Professor A. K. Banerjee, Chair of the Conference, emphasized the need for a strategic alliance between academia and industry to contend with climate risk and its mitigation.

The highlight of the first day of the Conference was the keynote address by Professor Prof. Sushanta Mallick from Queen Mary’s School of Business and Management. It was followed by the panel discussion titled “ESG Mandates, Climate Risk and Energy Transition: The Role of Green Finance.” The panelists included representation from both policy and industry. The panelists universally agreed that corporate houses can play a critical role in the pursuit of achieving the goals of sustainability. The Conference also held an editor’s meeting to provide insights from the editors’ lens to young scholars and attendees about the changing dynamism of publishing scholarly articles.

The second day concluded with a panel discussion on Sustainable Development, Industry 4.0, Project Funding, and Startup Initiatives and a valedictory session. The panelists included representatives from Tata Steel, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India, IDFC First Bank, and  Societe General.
