Ahmedabad:  Indian Business Schools are yet to break into top ten B-Schools in the global ranking lists, released by major ranking agencies.  However, there is a surprise development on subject specialization as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has created record.  The Two-year Post Graduate Programme in Food and Agri-Business Management (PGP-FABM) offered by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has been ranked as No. 1 in the world provided by Eduniversal, Paris, France.

MS Management International Agro-Alimentaire, offered by ESSEC Business School France, stands second in the globe while Master of Science in Food Industry Management offered by Cornell University – Johnson Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, USA features third place in the global list. The Eduniversal Evaluation System has established a Methodology to rank the Best Masters and MBA programs worldwide.

The Post Graduate Programme in Food & Agri-Business Management (PGP-FABM) is a two-year full-time residential programme.  The PGP-FABM Programme has evolved over the years and expanded beyond agriculture to other allied areas such as food processing, commodities and rural development sector, and rural infrastructure. IIM Ahmedabad increased the intake to 46 students with inclusion of more industry interaction, Rural Immersion Modules and have made project-work a significant part of the curriculum than ever before. The programme attracts many companies across the supply chain, for academic collaboration, internships and finally for recruitment.

Commenting on the course, Professor Debjit Roy, Chairperson, PGP-FABM said, “To address today’s challenges in food and agri-business sector, participants need to have cross-functional management exposure and work with teams members from diverse backgrounds. FABM programme, which attracts participants from diverse backgrounds such as agriculture and food sciences, engineering, biotechnology, and life sciences, prepares the participants to take up challenges in this sector-focused problem solving.  The alumni from this programme are playing a key role in shaping up policies and addressing the needs of this sector.”

Rural Immersion Module (RIM) also helps students to spend about three weeks in rural areas. The students have the opportunity to meet the rural community, know their lifestyle, values and help them carry out project on issues of socio economic nature. The students exchange programme is also offered in collaboration with four foreign universities, ESSEC B School, France, University of British Columbia, Canada, Norwegian School of Economics, Norway, and Antai College, China with a view to enhance the international exposure for the PGP-FABM students. Students spend about one term (10-12 weeks) at the foreign university.
