Mumbai:  Getting a PhD seat in any university is not an easy task amid changing norms for PhD admission in universities and surging demand among aspirants. The current admission session July-August 2017 com in g to end. Still there are hopes for candidates who missed the admission session as more than ten universities where PhD admission is open.

These prominent universities or institutes where admission for various doctoral programmes is open are as followed: Savitribai Phule Pune University; Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram; Alagappa University, Tamil Nadu; GD Goenka University , Gurgaon;  Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar ; University of Calcutta, Centre for Research in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology; North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong; Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut;  Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune and National Centre for Radio Astrophysics ; Dayananda Sagar University Bangalore; and others.

Savitribai Phule Pune University, formerly University of Pune, has notified for PhD & MPhil admission for the academic year 2017-18. The university will hold PhD Entrance Test (PET) on 10 September 2017. There are more than 70 streams/disciplines where PhD admission is offered by Savitribai Phule Pune University. The faculties where more than 70 research disciplines include science & technology, engineering, Business &  Management , Pharmacy, Commerce, Humanities & Arts, Social Sciences, Law and Education.  The closing date for submission of online application ends on 14 August 2017.

For Dayananda Sagar University, Bangalore, the PhD Entrance Test will be held on 13 August 2017. The closing date for submission of filled application form is 7 August 2017. The following departments of DSU offer phD programmes: Department of Mechanical Engineering; Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering; Department of Computer Science & Engineering; Department of Physics; Department of Chemistry; Department of Mathematics; Department of Biological Sciences; Department of Management; College of Pharmaceutical Sciences; and College of Nursing Sciences.

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) has invited application for admission to the PhD program (September 2017 session) in various domains of disease biology. The last date for submission of application form 04 August 2017.

List of Universities/Institutes where PhD admission is open for July-August 2017 session

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar has released official notification for conducting PhD Eligibility Test for the academic year 2017-18. PhD Eligibility Test for the 17 Subjects shall be held on 17 August 2017. The closing date for submission on online application is 12 August 2017 while the last date for Fee Deposit is 09 August 2017.

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune and National Centre for Radio Astrophysics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCRA-TIFR), Pune have notified for IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test 2017. The IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test (INAT-2017) is conducted to select candidates for a research scholarship towards a PhD at either IUCAA or NCRA-TIFR. The closing date for submission of online application is 15 September 2017 (Friday). The last date for the online submission of the Assessment forms is 20 September 2017.

The next UGC-NET for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professor will be held 05 November, 2017 (Sunday).  The candidates are required to apply online from 11 August 2017. The last date for applying online is 11 September 2017 and fee can be paid up to 12 September 2017.
