Bangalore: Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is a multidisciplinary research institute based in Bangalore, has invited online applications for MS/PhD  Programmes in Science and Engineering subjects. Further admission to Integrated PhD Programmes are open at JNCASR, Bangalore. The closing date for submission of online application is 16 April 2017.

PhD Programmes & Eligibility Conditions: JNCASR offers PhD programmes in various Science and Engineering subjects through its research units: Chemistry and Physics of Materials Unit (CPMU), Engineering Mechanics Unit (EMU), Evolutionary and Integrative Biology Unit (EIBU), Molecular Biology and Genetics Unit (MBGU), New Chemistry Unit (NCU), Neuro Sciences Unit (NSU), and Theoretical Sciences Unit (TSU).

Candidates with an M Sc., B E, B Tech, M E, M Tech or MBBS are eligible to apply.  They should have at least 50% in their highest University examination, and should also have qualified in the GATE / JEST /GPAT or  UGC -/ CSIR – NET-JRF/ / ICMR – JRF / DBT-JRF/ INSPIRE-JRF. The award certificate of such test should have the validity period for seeking admission to research programme as on the first working day of the beginning of the session/semester (1 January or 1 August) . Generally ME/M.Tech students are required to qualify one of the exams mentioned above, however exceptional candidates without these exams may also be considered.

PhD students will receive scholarships of Rs. 25,000-28,000.  Students are automatically enrolled in a Group Insurance Scheme and a comprehensive medical scheme and have access to an on-campus doctor, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere.

MS (Engg) or MS (Research) and Eligibility Conditions: JNCASR offers MS Research in its Molecular Biology and Genetics Unit (MBGU) and Evolutionary and Integrative Biology Unit (EIBU).  The institute also offers MS (Engg)  in its Chemistry and Physics of Materials Unit (CPMU), Engineering Mechanics Unit (EMU), Theoretical Sciences Unit (TSU), and New Chemistry Unit (NCU).

Candidates with an M Sc., B E, B Tech, M E, M Tech or MBBS are eligible to apply. They should have at least 50% in their highest University examination, and should also have qualified in either the GATE / JEST/GPAT or UGC or CSIR – NET-JRF/ ICMR – JRF / DBT-JRF/ INSPIRE-JRF.

M S (Research)/ M S (Engg.) students receive scholarships of Rs. 25,000. Students are automatically enrolled in a Group Insurance Scheme and a comprehensive medical scheme and have access to an on-campus doctors, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere.

Integrated PhD programme and Eligibility Conditions: JNCASR offers Integrated (Int.) Ph.D. programme in Materials Science, Chemical Science and Biological Science.

Candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s level [(B.Sc) as applicable to the area]. Candidates who are appearing for their final examination in Bachelor’s can also apply.

Materials Science: Students with Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science can apply. Candidates are expected to have sound knowledge in the fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates who have qualified the JAM 2017 written test for Master’s are invited to apply. Selection will be through the Joint Admission test for Master’s (JAM) and/or JNCASR’s written test,  followed by  interview at Bangalore for the shortlisted candidates. The JNCASR written test for Materials Science will be held  only at JNCASR, Bangalore. Interviews for the shortlisted candidates will be held the same day or the following day.

Chemical Science: Students with Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Chemistry as a major and mathematics as a subject at least up to PUC (10+2 level) can apply. Candidates who have qualified for the JAM 2017 written test for Master’s are invited to apply. Selection will be through  the Joint Admission test for Master’s (JAM)   and/or JNCASR’s written test,  followed by  interview at Bangalore for the shortlisted candidates. The JNCASR written entrance test for Chemical Science will be held  only at JNCASR, Bangalore. Interviews for the shortlisted candidates will be held the same day or the following day.

Biological Science: Students with Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science can apply. Selection will be through JNCASR’s written test,  followed by  interview at Bangalore for the shortlisted candidates. The JNCASR written entrance test for Biological Science will be held only at JNCASR, Bangalore . The candidates shortlisted from the written test will be called for interview the same day or the next day.

Selected students will receive a scholarship of Rs 15,000/- p.m. for the first two years. Successful students will receive M.S degree on successful completion of their course work and research project/thesis and continue for  Ph.D. programme with a fellowship and fees as applicable to a Ph.D student.
