New Delhi, 2nd April 2019: On the occasion of 6th Anniversary celebration of Ka:rmik Linguistic and Literary Association (KLLAS), School of Humanities & Social Sciences of Sharda University, a leading diverse educational institution with a focus on inter-disciplinary experiential learning for students from across 80+ countries had organized an International Conference on New Directions in 21st Century Linguistics, Literature and Language Teachings on 29th and 30th March, 2019 at their campus. The International Conference was aimed at bringing together academicians, researchers, trainers and educators to discuss key innovations, concerns and challenges encountered while imparting teachings in the field of Linguistics, Language, Literature and Culture in today’s day and age.
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sharda University offers degrees at Bachelor, Masters and PhD levels along with various short term courses in language proficiency. The International Conference witnessed the presence of eminent international personalities from the education sector such as; Isaev Asein, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic in Delhi, Zamark Shinwari, Nangarhar University, Afghanistan, Professor (Dr.) Mohammed Basil Qasim Alazzawi, Mosul University, Iraq, Lazgin Kheder Sulaiman Barany, Assistant Professor, College of Languages, University of Duhok, Iraq, Prof. (Dr.) Fatimah R. Hasan, University of Erbil, Kurdistan, Chnur Namiq Hasan, Ministry of Culture and Youth, Kurdistan, Farah Husham, Essra University, Baghdad, Iraq, Dr. Wryalzzadin Ali and Dr. Lanja A. Dabbagh, Department of English, College of Languages, Salahaddin University, Hawler, Husham Alyasiri, Iraqi Primary School Education, Baghdad, Iraq, Fariba Jafari, Research Scholar, Iran and Robab Adamzadeh, Research Scholar, Iran.
Prof. P. K. Mitra, Dean School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sharda University said, “Dominance of English language & literature has been growing all over the world and India too has witnessed this transition as the classical approach of ‘Grammar & Translation’ slowly faded. In the past 5 years, we have trained more than 500 international students in English Language skills. We have been practicing different pedagogical practices such as – Direct Approach Method, Community Language Learning, the Silent Way and Total Physical Response. The conference provided us with great opportunity to interact and come up with different ways to make the teaching and learning processes more effective.”
Prof. P. B. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University on the sidelines of the occasion said, “I am truly delighted to be a part of the International Conference organized by Sharda University. The theme of the conference was incredibly relevant as various sub-themes like Indian Literature in English, Film and Media Studies, Gender Studies and English for Academic purposes had been included with a special focus on Ka:rmik Linguistic Theory and Practice.”
Prof. Priya Ranjan Trivedi, Chancellor, Indira Gandhi Technological University, Andhra Pradesh on the occasion said, “It was indeed a grand step by Sharda University which has been at the helm of affairs in the area of academic, scholarly and creative activities. This unique theme of the conference brought together experts, academicians, researchers, practitioners, trainers, educators and didactics giving them an opportunity to present their studies, innovations, trends and solutions in the fields related to English Language Teaching, Literature and Karmic Linguistic Theory.”
Summing up the conference Dr. Pramod Kumar, Convener, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sharda University said, “The International Conference was aimed at communicating the current progress in the fields of Language and Literature. It was truly meant for literary exchange and generation of new ideas in the chosen field along with social interaction and get together. This conference also aimed at building bridges to strengthen the collaborations in many language and literary approaches that are global in nature.”
Renowned scholar, Mr. Kesidamana Dasa also addressed the audience at the International conference and discussed about the Karmic way of living life. Kesidamana was born to Irish parents in 1949 at Manchester, UK. He later started teaching Vaishnava philosophy through a Swahili language magazine in the late 1970s and learnt Music Theory & Vedic Astrology later. He has also contributed articles to various books and magazines related to the philosophy of Vedic Siddhanta. He currently resides in Vrindavan, Mathura, studying and lecturing on the writings of the Vaishnava Acharyas.
