New Delhi: IAS is a civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. It is considered as one of the toughest exams conducted nationwide. Every year thousands of aspirants dream of qualifying the exam. The students mostly fail to qualify the examination due to lack of proper decisions and technique required for the preparation. The students need to work really hard, but besides this, they need to make smart decisions.
The interview round of IAS is conducted at the UPSC Office, New Delhi. The interview round consists of marks that get added afterwards to the final merit list. The scores for the interview round is never disclosed on the same day. The candidates will get to know it when the final results will be out.
IAS interview is a personality test
Preparation of IAS is often considered as a personality test in the Civil Services Examination board. It is prophesied that a psychologist is also present among the interviewers for the interview to take a note on body posture, gestures, body language and expression of the candidates to judge them during the interview. All the chairpersons of the board are invariably the member of UPSC committee. During the mains exam, candidates double the number of vacancies are selected and called to appear for the personality test. The procedure of interview is one of the most essential parts of the examination process as the previous records say that only 2.5% of the candidates are called for the interview. It is often observed that the candidates selected for the interview round levitate around a minimum 55 per cent in
UPSC mains result for the test. The candidate generally needs to obtain at least 58% marks. If the candidates can secure 60% or more marks, they will get the privilege of choosing a service of their own choice. One needs to strive to score at least 200 marks or above in the interview to be allotted in IAS and other Group A services.
Documentation Procedure in Personality test
Candidates need to be well prepared one day before visiting the UPSC office for the test. They should carry all the documents in advance to save themselves from unwanted rejection. The candidates who have some benefit of reservation under SC, ST, OBC or Physically Handicapped category needs to fill in and submit the respective certificate.

All the candidates irrespective of any reservation needs to present the following documents mandatorily:
- Questionnaire- There are various divisions of sections on the questionnaire i.e. Background information of the candidate and their parents, Employment status, Previous attempts to Civil Services, Clearing Competitive exams, Educational particulars, Choice of Optional subject. The questionnaire is used to do background assassination.
- Attested form- The form needs to have all the equipped information about the education, residence, nationality and needed to be verified and signed by a Gazetted Officer.
Questions asked at the time of interview.
The syllabus for interview round in IAS has no fixed boundaries. The interviewer requires a quick answer for which the candidates must think about all the possible primary and secondary possibilities of questions from each topic. The questions might also be asked from the answers filled up on the form. Therefore, it needs to assassinated well. The interview goes for around 30 to 40 minutes for each candidate. The basic judgement revolves around the understanding of the constitution of India, fabrication of Indian society, socio-economic and issues related to law and governance, and the justification of the solution.
For the preparation of the final interview, the daily newspaper is a significant source of information. It provides an established interest and knowledge about national affairs and awareness of the current developments. For the first 5-10 minutes, the candidates are asked straightforward questions to develop their confidence level and make them comfortable in the current environment. After that, questions from DAF (Detailed Application Form) are asked. The details in the form are critical as the board of Interview ask about the historical significance, background, history of the monuments present in your hometown and various other related questions.
Five members sit in the room along with the chairperson who probably welcomes the candidate. It is must to present a buoyant body language, body posture and a decent appearance. You must listen to all the interviewers and maintain eye contact. Try to avoid unnecessary movement of the hands. Listen to them carefully and try to give short and crisp answers.
