Navi Mumbai : The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is pleased to announce the commencement of its innovative Faculty Development Programme focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science in collaboration with Jio Institute. This initiative falls under the purview of AICTE’s ATAL (AICTE Training and Learning) initiative. This training programme will empower and equip a select group of 40 faculty members from AICTE-approved institutions with skills and knowledge on AI and DS.
Known for its exceptional AI and Data Science programme, Jio Institute will facilitate a transformative five-day training initiative. Leveraging its world-class faculty, the institute will offer comprehensive insights into AI and Data Science, with a keen focus on the ethical implications of using AI tools in immersive learning contexts.
The inaugural session of this transformative initiative was held at sprawling Jio Institute campus on August 21, 2023. The programme was inaugurated in the august presence of AICTE Chairman, Prof. T.G Sitharam. He delivered an engaging keynote address, highlighting the rapid technological advancements of our era and India’s imminent role as an educational leader on the global stage.
“In this Amrit Kaal, India is transforming its education system to retain the status of ‘Vishwa Guru’ and place ourselves as a global leader. And in this transformational journey, new-age technologies like AI are going to play a major role,” he said.
Prof. Sitharam also underscored the importance of adapting to the times, praising the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for introducing flexibility into the curriculum. “NEP 2020 has brought a lot of flexibility to the curriculum. Curriculum upgradation has to happen fast, because technology is changing fast, industry needs are changing fast, and we have to understand their needs and integrate new-age pedagogies to teaching-learning practices and the curriculum,” he remarked.
Furthermore, he emphasized the vital role of upskilling educators to keep pace with the rapid technological advancements that surround us.”
Talking about the relevance of the programme in today’s world, Dr Guruswami Ravichandran,Provost, Jio Institute said “India is emerging as a hub for global talent, especially in technology. The worldwide demand for skilled people in AI&DS is growing exponentially in all sectors. In order to train the youth, we also need faculty who are equipped with the knowledge of emerging technologies, which this progamme will provide to the faculty participants.”
