VARANASI : Dr. Sada Nand Pandey, Department of Zoology, Institute of Science has been conferred the Rising Star Award of AsCA (Asian Crystallographic Association) by IUCr (International Union of Crystallography). The award is presented to the emerging leaders in the field of crystallography in Asia and Oceania. The Award Ceremony was recently held in Jeju Island, South Korea. Awardees are selected crystallographers from the subject areas – Physics, Chemistry, Structural Biology, and specialized techniques. Dr. Sadanand Pandey also delivered the award lecture on ‘Potassium based partial inhibition of Lactoperoxidase’. Lactoperoxidase (in this case was isolated from Himalayan Yak milk) is a natural antibacterial and antiviral protein, part of the innate immune system and its controlled therapeutic application is imperative to achieve the best balance between inflammatory responses and anti-microbial actions.
